(11,498 posts)Joe and Kamala are great and I am looking forward to them but the healthcare workers put their life at risk daily with very little time off deserve it the most.

(11,572 posts)As much as I like and admire The Ticket - which is a great deal - they haven't done much yet, while the healthcare workers are doing heroic service every single day, as you say. OTOH, if they tapped Drumpf in 2016, the same logic applies today, and they deserve it.

Chili
(1,725 posts)...they were discussing the four possibilities (paraphrasing): the COVID frontline health care people; the concept and importance of the summer protests, that asshole in the WH, and those two outstanding people above.
Good choice! (though I'm sure the frontliners and the protests were tied for 2nd - I hope).
Cha
(297,733 posts)the Frontline Health Workers & Joe & Kamala are tied, imo.. they all have been critically important this year.
Hopefully the Health Workers will be much safer after Biden & Harris take Over!
Chili
(1,725 posts)... is painful to watch. They fight back the tears, which of course makes me cry.
In my head, they are linked - Biden/Harris will work hard to get the virus under control and give the frontliners the break they so desperately need, while at the same time, initiate police reform so badly needed that will bring us all together. Well, those who want to be together.
But the orange jackass - he ain't in the picture.

(1,725 posts)... Biden and Harris might go down in history for saving this nation. They have so much to do, and such opposition, such colossal effing challenges. But if any duo can do it, they can.
But we do need the Senate!
Yeah, lighting that candle for them...

Hoping when Joe's people are running the top health departments they change their minds. Most will need a month off after this.

(63,221 posts)Nothing against Joe and Kamala, I love them and I am so glad this will be a huge insult to Trump, But IMHO, the healthcare workers were the most deserving of this award.

(6,929 posts)I think the Healthcare Workers should be it.
My husband and I sent some snacks to the critical care units and COVID floors of the hospital where we used to work. We ordered from a place that I do not eat anymore because of their LGBTQ problems....OK, it is Chick-fil-A, but it was what the nurses requested and it was what they got. Even got an alert from my credit card company for such a large charge at Chick-fil-A.
It is a small community hospital...rarely are there 200 inpatients...last night more than 60 were COVID patients.

(63,221 posts)I adore them, but I really think it should have been the healthcare workers as well. Time blew it on this one.

(14,495 posts)This made international headlines: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55270322
Excerpt:
"The Biden-Harris ticket represents something historic," Time tweeted.
The Democratic pair beat three other finalists: frontline healthcare workers and Dr Anthony Fauci, the racial justice movement, and President Donald Trump, who lost the White House race.
Time has been choosing the year's most influential person since 1927.
"For changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are TIME's 2020 Person of the Year," wrote Time's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal.
So, this year's winners are:
Guardians of the Year:
Dr Anthony Fauci, a key member of the Coronavirus Task Force, and frontline health workers. "On the front line against Covid-19, the world's health care workers displayed the best of humanity - selflessness, compassion, stamina, courage - while protecting as much of it as they could," Time wrote
Porche Bennett-Bey, Assa Traoré, and racial-justice organisers "When George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis in May, it was proof - if anyone needed it - that Black lives are still not treated as equal in America. In the aftermath of his death, a wave of outrage surged and was harnessed by organisers, both veteran and newly energized, to bring millions to the streets and spotlight the inequities in a world that claims to be far better than it is," Time said
Not likely to be seen on the wall at Mar-a-Lagoaway or T-Tower.....
Thanks for posting, DI. Loveliest thing I've seen since Nov. 3.

(45,543 posts)there are people in my life cursing Time for choosing politicians over healthcare workers or even the people who died, but it's good that they are guardians. This has been a historic year on many levels including the racial justice activism and more.

(7,341 posts)2020 saw a shift in attitudes towards those who work in jobs normally dismissed as "unskilled laborers" to recognizing their roles in our community as essential. Everyday people who worked long hours constantly at risk of exposure so others can have necessities other than selfish hoarders.

(6,697 posts)Don't misunderstand, Biden and Harris are amazing in my book.
But Medical care workers are saving this country, and making insane sacrifices to do so. There are not enough accolades, medals, bonuses etc to compensate for what they've given.
Cover of Time is just symbolic, and the least we could do.
