(7,447 posts)war isn't going away because we are human beings, it's in our nature.
It's going to take centuries to beat that out of our nature, and it's probably going to take technology that renders power, water, and food so plentiful that no one wants to fight over it. That, and the slow (too slow) but inevitable death of religion, and things will eventually improve I believe.
Until then, the old paradigm holds...bad times then good times then bad times then good times and on and on.

(27,806 posts)We weren't in any wars, employment was soaring, rents were still affordable, and downtown Seattle was booming with music and lots of great stores, coffee carts, and the last of the old diners. The theatre scene was strong. And people seemed as if they were in a good mood for long stretches of time.
So can we please have that back, this time without Newt Gingrich to end it?

Perhaps it was because it was the decade I became an adult and began exploring the world for real and figuring out who I was. It wasn't all beer and skittles, but what decade is? Repeat it? Sure. And yes, this time without Newt.
