Jill Biden responds to Wall Street Journal doubling down on column suggesting she drop 'Dr.' title

The Wall Street Journal doubled down after a column from essayist Joseph Epstein sparked controversy over the weekend for "misogynistic views," suggesting soon-to-be first lady Jill Biden stop using the title "doctor," though she is one.

"These pages aren’t going to stop publishing provocative essays merely because they offend the new administration or the political censors in the media and academe," wrote Journal editorial page editor Paul A. Gigot in a column posted Sunday evening. "And since it’s a time to heal, we’ll give the Biden crowd a mulligan for their attacks on us."

Nearly every major news outlet ran a story over the weekend on the backlash from Epstein's Friday column, which also referred to the 69-year-old educator with a doctorate of education degree as "kiddo." Among the critics: Doug Emhoff, husband to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Northwestern University, where Epstein says he taught for 30 years, and Biden herself.

"Together, we will build a world where the accomplishments of our daughters will be celebrated, rather than diminished," Biden tweeted Sunday

Their feelings got hurt.

The nationwide condemnation of their stupid (word chosen carefully -- stupid) editorial is not about feelings, but out of respect for accomplishment.

However, Republicons represent the parts of the American populace who look down on education, look down on any real accomplishments outside of athletics, and the parts who celebrate fake businessmen, fake boobs, fake degrees, and are suckers for propaganda.

Cue the H.L. Mencken quote or two.

on pornographic that got orangeman little fingers all excited. Not a word from any of MSM. Especially after she followed a truly classy Flotus. Sad the unconscious and conscious hateful racism/sexism and hypocrisy in this country that diminishes an accomplished person like Dr Jill Biden and never mentions the current Flotus with nary an accomplishment to her name except being the wife/paramour of a sexual predator posing as a POTUS.

How many neurosurgeons, cardiologists and oncologists deliver babies? I’m pretty sure Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking never delivered babies either. And yet they’re not doctors according to what a “wise man” once told him.

Gigot can go fuck himself.

To the rest of us, it looked like old-fashioned misogyny and smug condescension from a guy well-known for both characteristics.

Provocative is Ta-Nehisi Coates discussing why reparations is a good idea regarding slavery and its legacy. Provacative is MLK Jr. talking about America being the arms supplier to the world and an agent of war. Provocative is Gloria Steinem talking about what the world would be like if men menstruated. Peggy McIntosh talking about unpacking the invisible knapsack.

An old White guy trying to tell an educated Doctor to "know her place", is tired old sexism. Nothing provocative about it.

Gigot (does that rhyme with bigot?) should learn to tell the difference between provocative and simply offensive.
