There is always enough money for corporate and 1% tax cuts, military contractors and wars (but not vets or enlisted people) and corporate welfare, but never enough for the people who are paying most of the taxes and doing most of the actual work in this country.

I can't understand how many people are so blind to the fact of how corrupt the party is and how they have done absolutely nothing for anyone who isn't part of the establishment or isn't part of the millionaire/billionaire class in decades.

These checks aren't really being issued to help out individuals that have been harmed by the pandemic.

They are being issued to help the economy as a whole.

The checks aren't being sent out to specifically help folks with rent, or bills, or whatever.

They are being sent out to folks that they hope will immediately spend them.....thus, stimulating the economy.

Being on SS, I should have gotten direct deposit. But I was a little worried because I don't file taxes, being too low on the income scale. So I filed a 2019 tax return. Since I didn't get a refund, I didn't send IRS my bank info. I think that's why I got a paper check.

Why in the hell can't they just target these things to people in need? I ended up giving almost my entire stimulus to friends in need and charities. I think I may have gotten a couple of extra sushi dinners out of it.

I expect to do the same now. We've got this looming eviction crisis in less than 2 weeks and they're handing out chump change to the middle class? This is all so fucked. Where the hell are our priorities?

There are a ton of people struggling and this is a quick way to get help out. It already is targeted to those with less than $70,000 income.

I can’t work and my mom lives on Social Security. How does the money get to us? We are in need a lot.

I think the outrage here is the stupid “three martini lunch” tax break and the fact there needs to be MORE help for regular people.

They should increase unemployment checks or increase food assistance. They should have done a national eviction moratorium and provide assistance to landlords who depend on the income on a needs-assessment basis.

But to just throw allow me $600 into the cloud and hope that some of it lands on someone who needs it, much like how Trump threw paper towels into a crowd of hurricane victims, is inefficient and lunkheaded.

Giving a pittance of aid to people who don't need it while ignoring the massive needs of people who are at risk of losing their homes or going hungry is just insane

The big corporations ate up much of the paycheck protection program and people who need money got crumbs. Happens way too much. The checks should be part of aid at many levels. The debt or having some people who don’t need it get some isn’t a big concern in a crisis IMO.

31. It should have been only for those in need
Mon Dec 21, 2020, 01:44 PM
Dec 2020

I'd rather have seen the means testing be down to $45K a year and boost the payments to $2000. And i think the unemployment aid is the most important part of this. PUA being extended means that UE bartenders, self employed people, and a lot of restaurant workers who wouldn't qualify in their state get a minimum of $460 a week for 11 more weeks. These are the people in need the most.

So my wife and I who make a combined $130K a year are going to get $1200, it's fine, but we do not need it. Neither of us has been off work, we're doing fine, it's just a giveaway to us where as people who are behind on bills, who have not been working are getting barely enough help.

But maybe just start phasing it out after $50,000 or so. In this crisis, it’s not just the low income who could need more help. It can add to the too low amount of $300 unemployment for middle clsss people out of work.

This country is VERY out of whack. I don't know what the nuts and bolts would be but this money needs to go to those truly in need: unemployed, working poor, those facing eviction, low-income seniors, etc.
