There's an old country saying that may soon take on new meaning for some of the right-wing media and celebrities who have been making wild accusations about voting machines and software in the wake of Donald Trump's defeat. It goes like this:

"Hunting ain't no fun when the rabbit got the gun."

As the New York Times reported Sunday night, the digital security system Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems may soon be turning the tables on some of the people who have brashly tormented them since the election. In particular, Antonio Mugica, founder of Smartmatic, has some wingnut TV outlets in his legal sights.

"In an era of brazen political lies, Mr. Mugica has emerged as an unlikely figure with the power to put the genie back in the bottle," the Times reported. "Last week, his lawyer sent scathing letters to the Fox News Channel, Newsmax and OAN demanding that they immediately, forcefully clear his company's name — and that they retain documents for a planned defamation lawsuit. He has, legal experts say, an unusually strong case. And his new lawyer is J. Erik Connolly, who not coincidentally won the largest settlement in the history of American media defamation in 2017, at least $177 million, for a beef producer whose "lean finely textured beef" was described by ABC News as "pink slime."

Dominion and Smartmatic flip votes is a signal to me that those 2 companies are legit.

Someone needs to take a look at ES&S voting machines that were predominately used in Maine, Florida, and Kentucky.

With Trump pushing this nonsense, McConnell wouldn't dare block it. ES&S voting machines are the most likely to have issues. If the Trump sycophants try to block it, that would confirm to me that ES&S is the real dirty player.

When every salient point you make about the other party's lack of integrity is the subject of retraction on your preferred media outlet. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

voting systems before trump was and now we have done a 180 to defend them?

And why did the GOP whistleblower report that Rove said if pre-election polls were close it was easy to "win" by flipping votes?

Apologize in advance for missing the reasons.

category.

This vote flipping theory is literally the exact same theory as was alleged that Republicans used against Democrats in the past. The only difference is the target of the alleged flipping scheme. Because Democrats were the alleged target in the past, the completely unsupported wild allegations found support among some portion of Democrats (including here on DU).

The bigger difference in voting manufacturer response is that when the machines were alleged to have been shifting votes away from Democrats, there were virtually no prominent Democrats publically supporting the CT. Now that the allegations are that they are shifting votes away from Republicans, no less than the president has been making the allegations (supported by other elected Republican officials), and those allegations were made not only in isolated informal discussion boards - but in various state and federal courts up to and including the Supreme Court.

Intelligence warned Iran Russia and China hacking. The head of cyber after only week or two says no hack. No way would someone assert that so quickly.

Republicans HAVE hacked voting Machines so I guess I'm in the group you are dissing for wild allegations.

I was thinking the same thing, but there was actual evidence of shit happening. I recall seeing videos of people (probably here on DU) showing the machines flip their votes, or it would only take the vote for the Democrat if you managed to hit a small sliver on the touchscreen. I've never seen a Republican post up anywhere that a machine flipped their vote, and you know it would have been all over social media, as well as Fox, if they had. There was an issue in 2004 in Ohio where the machines would start subtracting votes at (I think) 20,000, so Kerry had fewer votes later in the day than he did in the afternoon. There was the "rob Georgia" patch that was installed on the Georgia machines that probably cost Max Cleland his seat. The security is just better than it was in 2000 or 2004. Here in Nevada, the machines have a paper trail that is created, so you can check to see how your vote will be recorded before you submit it.

With that being said, while I don't think there was any VOTER fraud this election, I'm sure there were games being played with the machines. McConnell was too determined to knock down that election security bill. The machines used in Kentucky, SC, Maine, Texas, Iowa, and Florida all used ES&S machines. https://www.rawstory.com/2020/12/why-the-numbers-behind-mitch-mcconnells-re-election-dont-add-up/ I'll bet a lot of people here are wondering just how McConnell, Graham, and Collins all won re-election by comfortable margins...McConnell basically in a landslide, in an election he went into with a 39% approval rating in Kentucky. And 7 million MORE people voted for that hideous excuse for a human being than in 2016?

The only thing Trump ever said that I believed was that this election was fixed. If he's screaming to look at Dominion machines, you can be damned sure the ES&S machines were dirty. The fix was in all right...they just didn't cheat enough.

We didn't have to cheat to beat this bastard, but the money line is at 23 seconds.
