I mean, if they later became a civilian leader like Ike, that's different.

That's probably just me though.

of actual "civilian" contributions - Truman's General George Marshall comes to mind - a statesman who had a significant military background and led the recovery of Europe after WW2.

but never did significant civilian service before or after ... I really am not bothered if you don't have a statue.

Not just talking Civil War here, I'm talking period.

Create a scholarship program or a community service foundation - you know, something that would actually HELP people!
