Heavily Armed Far-Right Mob Floods Oregon Capitol

SALEM, Or.—A group of about 300 demonstrators attempted to force their way into two separate entrances of the Oregon State Capitol on Monday, outraged lawmakers were holding a special session closed to the public.

The crowd was a loose collection of members of the Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer and other far-right groups, many of them are armed with pistols and rifles. At one point during the demonstration, which began around 9 a.m., a woman tried to climb in a window on the west side of the government building. Oregon State Troopers, however, repelled her—before two more troopers showed up to insist that she get off the ledge.

While I hate seeing this, I am heartened that they are so few. We'll never get everyone to think like us and there will always be some level of whackadoodle running around. Granted the whackadoodles running around with guns and storming the state house are a bit more troubling than the odd person roaming the street mumbling and shouting things crazy and incoherent but it is legal to open carry, and until they start pointing the guns and threatening, something that has to be tolerated technically. I do feel bad for the cops that have to stand against that wondering the whole time if this is going to break bad, not to mention the lawmakers just trying to do the citizens' business rationally (we hope).

They are armed terrorists trying to force their way into a building to take hostages and maybe execute people they disagree with. The police needs to defend the people inside the buildings with deadly force.

These people are no different than armed religious extremists trying to terrorize and harm and kill innocents. I feel like law enforcement is going to coddle these groups until they do something horrible, like open fire and kill dozens or hundreds.

These groups hate America, and they're showing up to harm Americans, there's no excuse for them.

A dozen more troopers arrived at the door, declared it an unlawful assembly, and pushed the crowd back, using some kind of deterrent in a series of “pop” sounds, at which point the protesters swarmed back out again, their eyes watering and coughing.

Sit-ins are one thing.

Forcing your way (or the attempt) into a government building while armed another.

They meant to intimidate and or coerce elected officials. Maybe even harm them. They did bring weapons.

This is not a case of political differences or a difference in opinions. This is not a case of people having a disagreement with government.

This is terrorism. This is an act of violence against elected officials.
