I think in another post someone cited the 130 number when talking about the 9 months of debate it took to get this bill passed

... comes from the meme/observation that members of Congress made $130k while arguing for 9 months about whether Americans deserve $600. That’s a correct statement.

Someone cited 9/12 of their salary as 130,000 which is roughly correct. I was then trying to say that if someone was trying to average the number would actually go up as the Speaker makes the highes salary in the legislative branch followed by the President pro temp in the senate then the house and senate majority and minority leaders

$600 is pretty skimpy in relation to the magnitude of the problem, but she'd rather people get nothing? And killing this bill won't cause McConnell to suddenly cave and offer a more generous deal.

Ritchie Torres, going to Washington next month to represent the South Bronx in Congress, says you won’t see him paling around with Democratic Socialists — and cited his strong support for Israel as a primary distinction between them and true progressives like himself.

“I came to observe that there are activists who have a visceral hatred for Israel as though it were the root of all evil,” Torres, 32, told The Post. “The act of singling out Israel as BDS [the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement] has done is the definition of discrimination.”

Torres isn't Jewish, but he is black, Latino, and gay.
