Alex Padilla (Sec of State) will replace Kamala Harris in California Senate seat

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/22/us/politics/alex-padilla-kamala-california-senate.html

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California selected Mr. Padilla to serve the final two years of Ms. Harris’s term. Mr. Padilla will be the first Latino senator to represent the state.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Alex Padilla, California’s secretary of state, has been appointed to fill the Senate seat held by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Tuesday, capping months of intense political jockeying among Democratic factions in the state.

The son of Mexican-born immigrants who settled in Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley, Mr. Padilla, 47, will be the first Latino senator from California, where Latinos are about 40 percent of the population.

“I am honored and humbled by the trust placed in me by Governor Newsom, and I intend to work each and every day to honor that trust and deliver for all Californians,” said Mr. Padilla in a statement.

“From those struggling to make ends meet to the small businesses fighting to keep their doors open to the health care workers looking for relief, please know that I am going to the Senate to fight for you. We will get through this pandemic together and rebuild our economy in a way that doesn’t leave working families behind.”

so, good or bad?

Probably not as good as Kamala, but she's a hard act to follow.

And we have to acknowledge that California is a soon to be majority Latino state. Hate to say it but Karen Bass was acting but a bit too entitled to that seat.

Great to see appointments made based on ability and service as opposed to friendship and amounts donated to campaigns!

Becerra and Padilla were the 2 obvious favorites for the seat and then Biden took Becerra off the board.
