As sure as night follows day...
How do we know that the traitors in the senate have finally acknowledged that President-Elect Biden will be residing in the WH in January? By their ramping up the deficit hawkery and ratfuckery with immediate effect and to be continued for the next four years...
Could their mendacity and hypocrisy be any more transparent? They are shameless. Utterly and completely barefaced in their crooked duplicity. These faux "constitutional warriors," who assert themselves to be "constitutional conservatives" supposedly defending their "constitutional republic" from all manner of "government tyranny," when a democrat resides in the WH, is a far cry from the reality and you have to be terminally stupid as a voter not to see it. Every time a republican seizes the reigns of power in 3 2 1 Deficits? Whats a deficit in comparison to BUILD THAT WALL and tax cuts for the wealthiest. Priorities people. Budget smudget. Government bailouts for banks and corporations are not handouts to the 1%, honest guv. 👀
We all know that building a deficit under conservative control is a vital tool to retain power and control and line their grasping wallets with grift. When a democratic White House be like, time to get back to being righteous as a nation and serve the common good well then, Lindsey and his ilk get their deficits fans out and proceed to have a deficit fainting fit.
As disgusting as it is predictable.

After the last four years if they think it is going back to situation normal they are idiots...

(5,126 posts)it seems there are some DUers who want things to go back to the 'way things were'. This is scary to myself, as we need to move forward, not look back in any way. Being a progressive means I believe in progress. Going back to anything is the opposite of what this country needs. Current post is case in point.
TERM LIMITS!
NON-PRIVATE HELATHCARE OPTIONS!
EQUITABLE JUDICIAL SYSTEM!
EQUITABLE ECONOMIC SYSTEM!
REMOVE BIG MONEY FROM OUR POLITLICAL SYSTEM!
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTIONS THAT WORK!
Or, we can just go back to slowly dying as we consume without control, be delusional about the world, and think we know everything. After looking around, I would prefer some progress... wouldn't you?

(31,017 posts)Term limits makes no sense, we lose some of our best leaders if we term limit them out. The Republicans have screwed their party by term limiting their committee chairmanships. If a congressman is no good vote him out. Term limits are only for executives. I agree with the rest of your statements.

(12,864 posts)That's an attempt to address a symptom rather than the root cause of corruption among our elected representatives -- namely, the system of legalized bribery known as campaign finance.
Without getting big money out of our electoral process, term limits will not lead to good government. Rather than attracting good people who want to make a career out of public service, term limits may attract those who are more intent on getting in and getting out with rewards for serving big money special interests.
Like any career, there is a learning curve to serving in Congress. Our government is vast and complex. Crafting good legislation and making wise decisions on economics, law enforcement, and foreign policy almost always requires years of government experience.
The American people would not be well served by a Congress of rookies, while forcing out those who are improving their job performance in a career of genuine public service.
We need to fix the problem at its root causes. Many reforms are needed in our electoral system. We won't get rid of bad eggs until we change how the chickens are being fed.

(12,864 posts)I assume your point is the power of incumbancy forestalls primary challenges.
As I said, many reforms are needed. Every election should be a contest of qualifications, track record, and ideas, in a format that fosters informing the voting public.

(50,949 posts)welfare queen tax breaks and making the rich pay the same percent of taxes as everyone else.
THEN institute Liz Warren's penny tax on financial transactions.
Do that, and the debt will go away.

(6,228 posts)Except this time we have to deal with huge tax cuts for the rich. I knew when that happened we would be in for a huge fight for years to come.

(12,864 posts)Deficits skyrocket whenever they have the White House. It's tempting to believe they're too stupid to understand that tax cuts for the rich and trickle down economics never work, but I think WE need to understand the effect of their policies on the budget is intended.
Their long term goal has been to destroy FDR's New Deal and LBJ's Great Society, but direct assaults on popular programs like Social Security and Medicare are political poison. In order to shrink government to a size that can be "drowned in a bathtub" they've employed a "starve the beast" strategy -- starve the government of funds to create a deficit crisis in an effort to convince the public that "entitlement" programs are unaffordable and tough choices have to be made.
No doubt Graham and the rest of the Rethug hypocrites will start demanding "entitlement reform" to reduce the deficit, while fighting tooth and nail against rescinding the Bush & Trump tax cuts for the rich.
What they call "entitlements" are the earned benefits we all paid for with deductions from every paycheck our entire working lives. They will scream "class warfare!" at raising taxes on the rich, but the plain fact of the matter is they've been waging and winning class warfare for decades.
The great wealth generated by all the hard work in this country has steadily been redistributed upwards to the real "elites" who fund the political careers of Lindsey Graham and other unprincipled servants of Mammon.
Now they'll be coming after the earned benefits we already paid for because the masters they've always served are just like Trump -- Too much is never enough.

(21,447 posts)Too many people don'tcrealize that this is precisely what Republican deficits are all about. In typical Republican hypocrisy, they scream about deficits over programs that benefit society as a whole while creating deficits with tax cuts for themselves in order to starve government, increase their own wealth, and overturn the FDR and LBJ programs.
They want to go backward to the days of the robber barons. Or further, to create the status roles of Medieval society, with the equivalent of nobility and manor lords controlling politics and the lives and incomes of serfs and peasants. They are establishing a firmly entrenched aristocracy. Didn't we fight a war of independence over this type of social rigidity?
It's not about socialism or communism versus capitalism. It's about our need as a nation to maintain some degree of economic mobility and fluidity. It's not that rich equals bad and poor/middle class equals good. It's about maintaining freedom of opportunity for everyone to reach their potential. You can't have that in a rigid society where 1% controls the economic and political lives of the 99%. You can't have that when people need to work 2 or 3 jobs just to maintain survival level. You can't have freedon of opportunity when people are sick without medical care, or when they lose a job and then a home
due to illness, or to economic mismanagement at the top of society.
You can't have freedom of opportunity for everyone to reach their potential when society becomes frozen or fossilized under the rigid control of 1%.
This is not a new idea. Our founders knew it. So did Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson. Today's Democratic leaders are saying the same thing.

(3,322 posts)Now if you are serious Lindsay, get on board with raising taxes on those making +$400,000 and the 2% wealth tax. Of course, if you really are serious about the debt.
I would advocate 90% tax on all income above $10 million/year (I'm pretty sure people can scrimp by on $10 milly a year). But that's just me.
