Golfer Greg Norman in hospital with coronavirus after father-son tournament

Golf Hall of Famer Greg Norman shared photos on social media Friday suggesting he has been hospitalized with COVID-19.

The 65-year-old Australian posted a video on Instagram on Thursday night saying he was experiencing coronavirus symptoms, then posted photos Friday showing himself in a hospital bed.

“This sums it all up,” he wrote. “My Christmas Day.”

Norman’s son, Greg Norman Jr., also said on social media that he and his wife, Michelle, have tested positive. The Normans played in the father-son PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida, last weekend.

According to the caption under the photo it's from Dec 20 during the final round of the tournament. So yeah, it's current. As an aside, if I lived in any other country in this world I wouldn't go anywhere near the US right now even with a mask.

and my golf buddies wear masks in the pro shot and if in the clubhouse but once we're out on the course we observe the six foot rule religiously, we leave the flag stick in, in other words, we don't touch it. We wear gloves. We all ride in separate carts now, no partnering up, unless we choose to walk with a pull cart, but once out on the course most of us take off our masks since we're out in the open air.

But as I said, we observe the six foot rule and wear golf gloves, and masks when in enclosed spaces close to people. And we no longer stop in the clubhouse after the round for a beer or food. We just tally up at the cart barn, with masks on when close to people. and get the hell out of there.

None of us have gotten the virus and we've followed this practice for nine months now. But Norman is a trump supporter most likely follows trump's reckless attitude in not wearing masks everywhere.

But even outside, 6' is not a safe distance without a mask.

One of the studies I periodically complete asks if I wear a mask within 30' of anyone I do not live with when I am outdoors. Inside, 30' is a distance COVID 19 can easily traverse.

keep our distance and we're all in separate carts and rarely get even six feet away from each other as on a golf course shots, especially from us duffers, end up several yards away from the other so we're rarely as close as six feet. And again, we're out in the open air. Most reports have said it's safer outside than in enclosed spaces, and this:

COVID-19 transmission can happen in just a few minutes over the course of a day, the Centers for Disease Control said Tuesday. The federal health agency had previously said that people should get tested if they’ve been within six feet of a COVID-19-positive person for more than 15 minutes at one time. But after studying a small outbreak at a Vermont prison, they updated the guidance to say that transmission can occur if someone is around another person who has the virus for a total of 15 minutes over a 24-hour period — even if each exposure was just two or three minutes at a time.
https://people.com/health/covid-transmission-few-minutes-exposure-over-day-cdc/

And btw, we're no trump humpers all routinely wear masks religiously when close to people.

As I said - outdoors is safer. Not safe. Wear your masks.

I just got back from my inlaws - 5 households in a single physical space. Not as mask in sight, aside from mine and my spouse's. (We were there less than 15 minutes.) Only one of them is a fan of Trump - and all, but that one, would tell you they wear masks in accordance with the guidelines. But they obviously don't. The fact that your friends aren't "Trump humpers" is no guarantee that when they are not on the golf course with you that they are limiting their shared indoor air to an exclusive bubble.

get close to each other so when we're playing we're several yards apart as we don't share carts anymore.

I appreciate what you're saying about masking as we are mask wearers and social distancers, but on a golf course out in the open air and several yards apart...

And btw, your Christmas day in a five-household event indoors in close contact with non-maskers sounds way more dangerous than a foursome on a golf course hitting shots outside from several yards apart.

We stopped briefly today (less than 15 minutes total) to drop off and pick up food. My spouse and I wore masks the entire time and got no closer than 6' to anyone else.

My point in mentioning this brief stop is that 4 of the 5 households would describe themselves as "mask wearers and social distancers." Describing yourself as "mask wear{ing} and social distanc{ing} is meaningless unless you (and each of your friends) also practice it religiously when you are indoors with anyone you do not live with - and sometimes even when you are among those you live with if they are not engaging in safe practices when they are outside of the house. My inlaws believe they are safe hanging out together because they are "mask wearers and social distancers." They are flat out wrong. But - the point is that far too many people who publically describe themselves exactly as you describe your friends do privately act on the premise that "friends and family don't count" when asked if they wear masks and social distance.

Do you actually know that your friends are not engaging in the same irresponsible behavior my in-laws engage in?

For months, my spouse insisted that she always wore a mask outside of the house - until I decided to push, with very specific questions, based on some clues that perhaps she had a different definition of "outside of the house." My daughter was similarly being careless - even though both my spouse and daughter described their behavior as safe. Because it clearly wasn't, for approximately a month I wore a mask indoors 24/7 to protect myself. Incidentally both of them were exposed because of their risky behavior.

They have each now agreed to alter their behavior.

FWIW - I also wear a mask when bike riding on a community hiking trail where I am generally more than "several yards apart," virtually all the time. An activity far more strenuous than golfing (making it more challenging to wear a mask) - and, generally, even farther apart than golfing (making it less necessary).

on a golf course—yards apart and very brief encounters at six feet—to get infected. We're no dummies. We observe health guidelines of mask wearing and social distancing in the pro shop and clubhouse, and in our social life away from the golf course. We know what's at stake and are very careful.

I must say again you took more of a chance at your five-household encounter than we do out on a golf course several yards from each other and in separate carts.

it's all about air movement and ventilation. It's the reason there were no virus spikes from the protests. Transmission outdoors, if air is moving and all are distanced properly is practically nil.

Your six feet are not safe. It is not just distance, but time, and golf games are long. It's wonderful that you are all taking precautions, but to be safer, you should add the mask until you are vaccinated. It's not that hard to breathe in a mask. I do it in an N95 for 9-14 hours a day, every day.

Greg Norman Backs Donald Trump: ‘Every Day He Becomes More Presidential’

Norman: “I have spoken to Donald on numerous occasions since the election and I think he will surprise many with what he will do with the presidency, but not himself. He has a clear vision.”

Aussie golfing great Greg Norman says his friend Donald Trump has exceeded expectations, praising his early months in the White House, saying “every day he becomes more presidential”.

In a world exclusive interview with News Corp Australia, ‘The Great White Shark’ said Trump has “the Stars and Stripes running pure through his veins” as he goes about “re-establishing that America is the leader of the free world protecting the freedom and democracy of all”.

He also says Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull wants to see Trump succeed in the top job, despite a difficult start to the leaders’ relationship in a fractious phonecall days after he took office.

Greg Norman says Donald Trump is succeeding in his role as US President despite strong opposition.

From The Guardian:

Norman said that despite being fit and strong and having a high tolerance for pain, the “hideous” virus had “kicked the crap out of me like nothing I had ever experienced before.”

‘Muscle and joint pain on another level. Headaches that feel like a chisel going through your head scraping little bits off each time, fever, muscles that just did not want to work like yesterday walking my dog Apollo my quads ad hip flexors just did not want to work due to fatigue.

“Then my taste failed, where beer tastes bad and wine tastes the same . . . at times struggling with memory of names and things.”
