(17,312 posts)The only thing that stopped me from watching all 8 in a row is that I want to savor them. These are the series that I wish had 22 episodes. Lol.

(14,474 posts)It's ok, a little formulaic.

(17,312 posts)Obviously loosely based. Im actually surprised that the women have a voice so much. Its really cool. The men try to control but the women do seem to actually control.

(15,805 posts)For not fathering any children seemed contrived and sophomoric. The intimate sex scenes were adult and well done without being tawdry.
As in any good story, it's the supporting characters and all the convoluted subplots that added depth to the story. The ending was neatly done, tying up all the loose ends to finish with such of completion.

(4,575 posts)Of the color in the sets and costumes is amazing. It's a real lift up from all of the other dark shows on TV lately.

(1,091 posts)And I agree, the secondary characters are great, especially Lady Danforth and Penelope Featherton.

(3,807 posts)Did anyone but me notice that at the first Deb ball in the first episode the song they were playing was a classical version of Arianna Grande's 'Thank you, Next'? It made me laugh! I also LOVE how the cast is multi racial when normally in these period pieces everyone is white. We're only 2 episodes in but it's a fun watch so far.

(10,084 posts)No romance, just f*cking - in the garden, on the stairs, against a wall or two, behind a curtain, at an orgy, and sometimes in bed.
No chemistry between the leads of Simon and Daphne and the actor who played Simon was so wooden I heard woodpeckers. They are not Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen or Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. No "burning" was evident.
Secondary characters - the mothers, Pen, Eloise, and Mrs Danbury, were all more interesting and lively.
That said, I would watch another season.

(33,945 posts)The color-blind casting is a fantastic move.
Still falls prey to many TV Drama tropes, including what I call the "Three's Company" plot device: THE major conflict of the entire series is a misunderstanding that would vanish if the protagonist just explained himself (which he'll eventually do).
It's not "The Great" (which was also color-blind casting), but it's miles ahead of most Peak TV fare.
