(63,221 posts)I have gotten into this vacation habit of staying up until about 4 or 5am and then sleeping until early afternoon, which really messes up my day. I wish I was asleep already.
Anyone have any good suggestions for prescription sleeping pills? I can't keep this up once I go back to work, but it has been going on even before vacation started so I have been sleep deprived for a while.
I need to fall asleep by around midnight or 1pm at the latest in order to get enough sleep during the work-week. I have tried OTC ones, but they don't really do the trick unless I have gone a few nights w/out sleep already.

(9,652 posts)That would mean I had one for me as well.
You are not alone. I'm on the same 'sleep' schedule as you.
I'm a night owl to begin with, but it's gotten much worse with everything going on. I can force myself to get up early, but then I'm dragging all day. You would think if I had less sleep, I would go to bed the next night much earlier. Hahaha.

(63,221 posts)I sometimes get sort of tired early in the evening, but I feel like if I crash out that early, then I will never get to sleep and it will just make things worse. But then when I power through that, I get a second wind and can stay up until all hours.
I am also a night person and always have been, but it has also gotten much worse lately. I used to be able to get to sleep by Midnight or one, maybe even 2 at the very latest, but after that, it's hopeless. I might as well just stay up all night because once I fall asleep later than that, I find it almost impossible to wake up by 8am. Every once in a blue moon, I will actually be tired at the right time, but it happens few and far between.

(9,652 posts)I do the second wind thing as well. I'm aware I'm doing it, and I tell myself don't fight feeling sleepy.
But there is something in me that says I cannot go to bed that early, even while my eyelids are drooping. And sure enough, the next thing you know, I'm wide awake again.
There are nights where I basically give up, and I'm pretty much up all night. Of course I feel miserable the next day.
I'm also like you in that I have been like this all my life. My body clock has always been the total opposite of most other people.
When someone mentions 7:00 a.m., I always ask, 'there's another seven on the clock besides 7:00 p.m.? Who knew?
So welcome to the family, smirkymonkey!
