TRIGGER WARNING ON THE VIDEO. It's at the link.
A Vacaville police officer was caught on camera punching his four-legged partner at a training facility.
Roberto Palomino recorded the incident on his phone. He says he was too afraid to confront the police officer.
I can still hear the dog crying, Palomino said. There was an officer beating a dog really bad. It was closed-fist punching in the face to a dog. He punched the dog several times before I was able to get it on camera.
The Vacaville Police Department confirmed that it one of their officers in Palominos video, but says the video was out of context.

The description was bad enough.

(65,111 posts)Excepting an out of control dog attacking you, what is the proper context for punching a dog in the face?
Training it to take a beating in case a perp punches them? That might be context, but it would still be 100% wrong.

(1,671 posts)prior to the video recording the dog had just completed a narcotics training session and had performed very well. It was rewarded with a toy. When the trainer tried to take the toy back, the dog acted aggressively toward the trainer. The spokesman basically said the action a trainer takes in response to that kind of behavior (i.e., make the dog submissive again) was appropriate. When the reporter asked if punching the dog in the face was a part of that, the spokesman replied with in some cases it is appropriate for "a strike" to the dog. Unbelievable downplaying of the situation!
Hey, police spokesman. You think the reason the dog might of been aggressive toward that trainer in the first place is because that trainer had been aggressive to the dog before? That asshole trainer should be thrown in an alligator infested lagoon to see how well his training methods work on them. An alligator becomes submissive if you pin it on its back, too.
