TERRY MCAULIFFE RAISES A RECORD $6.1 MILLION FOR HIS COMEBACK BID FOR VA. GOVERNOR

RICHMOND — Democrat Terry McAuliffe announced Monday that he has raised more than $6 million for his comeback bid for Virginia governor, far surpassing what previous gubernatorial hopefuls have raised at similar points in their campaigns.

It was not immediately clear how McAuliffe’s fundraising compares with that of his Democratic and Republican rivals, with the filing deadline for campaign finance reports about two weeks away.

But in earlier contests for the Executive Mansion, no one has ever raised so much so early — five months from the June 8 Democratic primary and 10 months from Nov. 2 election.

McAuliffe, who began raising money over the summer and formally entered the race Dec. 9, raised $6.1 million through Dec. 31. He finished 2020 with $5.5 million in cash on hand.

I think he has a good chance to win again. The Dems are a bit spread out and the Repubs have no one who normally would be seriously considered an option.
