There's NO FUCKIN WAY these people should be trusted with security of Americas establishments

(18,486 posts)DC Police did their jobs. But they don't have any jurisdiction on federal property. The Capitol is the responsibility of Capitol Police and DC Police cannot police it without being asked to assist.
The DC Police Department offered their assistance and was ready to step in, but their help was turned down. It wasn't until late in the day that Capitol Police asked them to come in and assist in clearing the building and the plaza.
This was not DC Police's fault. This is all on Capitol Police and other federal law enforcement and the people they report to.

(23,379 posts)What happened yesterday will happen again if things aren't shored up. The MAGAt army got away with a coup attempt. Doesn't matter that a few got arrested for curfew violations or whatever. These people have shown us who they are. It's way past time we believed them.

(7,947 posts)Though of course the city can't come in and guard the Capitol without being asked. On MSNBC, a reporter pointed out there are about 2000 officers, of whom only 500 were on duty. They didn't even call in the off-duty officers!

(18,486 posts)But Capitol Police protect more than just the Capitol Building and immediate vicinity. They also protect the six House and Senate Office Buildings, Library of Congress buildings, several other Congressional buildings within a few miles of the Capitol. It's possible that many more officers were on duty, but they were in other locations that needed protection and couldn't be pulled off to go to the Capitol and leave those places unprotected.
Or, it could be that only 500 were actually on duty that day, which would be really crazy. But I'd want more information drawing any conclusions about the number of officers actually there yesterday. But no matter what, they were severely understaffed.

(3,131 posts)Its embarrassing but thats where we are. The FBI and security was at best caught unprepared. At worst compromised.
Dont risk the transition.

That is ridiculous. So, when would be a good time for transition? How long should Biden be barred from office?

(3,131 posts)I dont want Biden and Harris together on that public podium until the security failures are understood.
Protect the transition means dont put them under unnecessary risk for the public display

(7,510 posts)The Capitol Police Board is comprised of the two Sergeants at Arms and the Capitol Architect. The Chief is a non-voting member of the Board.
Pelosi already having fired the House Sergeant at Arms, the ball is in McConnell's court now.

(15,470 posts)I think every Retrumplicans Senator and House member should get new offices, first floor, outside wall of the capitol, no curtains, no safety glass windows, with an old shower curtain for the door.
