(23,474 posts)situation (pardon language). I hate him. Only served 1 year out of a typical four year term as MO AG, but jumped ship to be a US Senator, replacing Claire (i miss her!). Perhaps we'll have a well qualified Missourian step up to the plate to run against hawley...know of anyone?

The Velveteen Ocelot
(119,096 posts)have not been infringed in the slightest. Simon & Schuster is a private company, not the government or acting for the government; the First Amendment only prohibits restrictions on speech by the government. And Hawley, who graduated from Yale Law School and taught constitutional law, knows this perfectly well. But the MAGAts he's cultivating, for all their ranting about it, haven't a clue what the Constitution actually says, and he's cynically using their ignorance for his benefit. S&S canceled the contract only because they concluded that Hawley is about to become about as popular as an inflamed hemorrhoid so his book wouldn't sell.

(3,233 posts)You can publish directly on Amazon for free. You still have the 1st amendment rights little buddy.
It is not a "right" to have your contract for a publishing fee canceled after you promoted an attack on our country. The free market doing its job is another way to look at it.
Actions have consequences.

(2,333 posts)Seems like they figure hanging out with a Nazi who provokes violence and tries to overthrow the government so a monster like Trump can become a dictator, might not be someone they want to promote.
Yep, Conservatives invented cancel culture but now that it has turned on them, they don't really seem to like it.
Retrograde
(10,461 posts)Look, Josh - as a Republican you're supposed to be pro-business. Simon and Schuster is a business, not a charity. That means they want to make money. And they know Magats don't (or can't) read. And they know you're not interesting enough to make readers of political books buy enough to cover their costs. So, deal with it like an adult.

(67,513 posts)The First Amendment does not apply. Unless you want to go back to your constituents and tell them private corporations are no longer allowed to make business decisions.
Did you want to tell them that?
Or should I?

It shouldn't be. There's no way Hawley wrote the one with his name on it.
