'Destroy Trump': Breitbart Staffers Seethe After Capitol Riot

“This is banana republic shit,” wrote one editor at the staunchly pro-Trump outlet, in response to colleagues downplaying or excusing the violence during last week’s MAGA mob.

Editors and reporters at the staunchly pro-Trump conservative outlet Breitbart News privately clashed over whether President Donald Trump was to blame for last week’s deadly Capitol riot, according to internal messages reviewed by The Daily Beast.

“I am just not feeling charitable AT ALL,” international news editor Frances Martel posted to Slack the morning after the rioting that left five people dead, including a police officer. “Destroy Trump.”

Martel lamented that Trump’s support for the MAGA mob had undone a decade’s worth of conservative politics, leaving the Republican Party “in shambles” and dimming the right-wing movement’s prospects.

“He set us back like 10 years,” Martel wrote. “We have worked so hard to promote our values, values that made him president when he hawked them, and now he does this, leaving everything in shambles? Nah, destroy him. Let it be a lesson to every other ‘populist.’”

Any day now, that long dreaded (and long suppressed) event will befall our friends in the GOP:

The establishment of the Freedom Party - and with millions of mouth-breathers anxious to sign up.

1) The smallest one that will emerge has actually been observing, tweeting, and (good) propagandizing from the sidelines: The Lincoln Project kind of conservatives. Rational, able to work with Democrats and vice versa.

Whether #2 or #3 will be bigger, is unknown. I'm guessing #2.

2) The Rotting Elephant Carcass party, also known as Greed Over People

3) The MAGA Q God Emperor of the US party

The most extreme one, of course.

As you know, the GOP far-right has been discussing establishing a Freedom Party (or something like it) since Buchanan was denied the nomination in '92 and '96.

Repugs have since then managed to stave off a Freedom Party splinter by simply adopting its politics - i.e. neo-fascism.

But because the far-right has an insatiable appetite for extremism, it's no longer enough.

And when the schism comes, the GOP will be left as the smaller of the two right-wing parties. Freedom Party voters ('Freedumbers') will hate them to death, since they'll see the GOP as their one real impediment to power.

The cat fights will be fun to watch - so long as Freedumbers never actually win high office (God forbid).

It should be dead.... but

1) this year, I learned that a solid third of US voters are fine with authoritarian government if it preserves the status quo.

2) the public tends to have a short memory.

I think a lot of Republicans are still trying to absorb just what the hell happened over the last four years, and especially over the last year. They were all so busy supporting trump and defending him against us that they didn't actually figure out all of the damage he was doing to their party.

To that I say, "Thoughts and prayers."

(Taking nothing away from Stacey Abrams, who did stellar work)

What was more surprising- and bitterly disappointing- was our underperforming in the House and Senate in November. Clearly a lot of indies and some Republicans split tickets with Biden up top, but Republicans down-ticket.

I do think the capital insurrection provides a compelling counter-narrative to the right's demonization of BLM.

But in the Georgia runoff she had help from Trump's idiotic behavior. Taking the Senate was a long-shot at best after the disappointing congressional results in the GE. It meant reversing the idea that splitting the ticket was a good idea, as well as beating the weeds for additional voters.

Trump's obnoxious behavior turned off a good number of GOP voters. The final numbers in the runoff showed far more Republicans staying home than their Democratic counterparts. That in itself is unusual in these runoffs.

Why Trump thought beating up on and having his pit bulls threaten Kemp, the SOS and election officials was a good idea right before a tight election is beyond me.

But between Stacey Abrams' tireless work and Trumps' narcissistic thirst for revenge, it worked to our advantage.

A true nail biter!

Donnie accelerated it. From McConnell to state gerrymanderers they've fought to delay demographic inevitability. Played the Senate and electoral college game. Packed federal courts. Now, there's a very good chance Trump has blown it all up. Inciting mobs of prols and armed insurrection just doesn't play well.

I was referring to leadership Republicans in Congress, not the cult who watch FauxNews. I highly doubt people like McConnell believe one bit of the conspiracy theories have been pushed by the far right, but they were using them to further their agenda.

I welcome being corrected if I'm wrong about McConnell. Sorry, I can't even come up with other names right now. I'm under the cloud of insomnia right now.

I know that's still a lot, but Pew just released a poll that showed 79% of people who voted for him still approve of him.
Ipsos had a poll at 64%.
So a minimum of 15 million people that actually voted for the idiot now don't approve.
All it took was an attempt to overthrow the republic!
