Amid Fears of Inauguration Violence, Man With Gun Is Arrested in Washington, but Calls It Honest MistakeSource: The New York Times

The U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man at a security checkpoint in Washington on Friday after he flashed what an officer described as an unauthorized inauguration credential and a search of his truck found an unregistered handgun and ammunition, the authorities said.
A federal law enforcement official said that the man, Wesley A. Beeler, 31, worked as a contractor, and that his credential was issued by the Park Police, but was not recognized by the police officer. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the arrest. Mr. Beeler had no known extremist ties, the official said.

In an interview, Mr. Beelers father, Paul Beeler said his son, a father of four, was working security near the Capitol grounds in recent days and had held other security jobs in Washington over the years. Mr. Beeler has an active private security license in Virginia and is approved to carry firearms while on assignments there, according to a state website.
He was proud of the work he was doing with the police and the National Guard, his father said. Asked if he thought his son supported a peaceful transition of power, he said, Thats the reason hes there....CONTINUED...

(19,253 posts)I found a 325-rd box of .22 ammo in the back of my Prius once a month after I bought it. I thought I'd left in the shopping cart in the parking lot of Fleet Farm by accident when I was loading up bags of chicken feed, but it got shoved under a beach towel.
For context, a 500-rd brick of .22 is about 4"x4"x6, about a half-loaf of bread.
Now, a 500-rd box of 9mm is more like a full loaf of bread in size. Harder to lose that. Between that and the fake ID, I don't believe a word he said

(19,253 posts)It's what kids use to shoot squirrels, not defeat body armor. My point was that very small caliber ammo is easily misplaced. And my firearms are always secured in a locked safe, unloaded. Jeez....

(1,977 posts)With a .22 bullet when he was 10 because he and his brother thought it would be fun to bang on it with a hammer. It went into his arm.
When he was 24 he killed himself with a .22.
Friend.
You misplaced a box of bullets. Yer a dumbass for that. Period.

(4,386 posts)He is a security agent who got lost in DC. Licensed in Va. for concealed carry, since you don't need a license for open carry. Not DC. Which I think would mean he can not legally carry a gun in DC if he is not authorized. So not working as an armed guard. Who is the gun registered to? And who planted the ammo?
