"I Had To Pay For (The Hankmobile) Myself." (Larry Sanders Fans Alert)
Normally, the outgoing President congratulates the incoming President at the Inauguration, and then (as a courtesy from the new President) rides on Marine 1 to Joint Base Andrews, where he's sent off with a red carpet, an honour guard, and a 21 gun salute, before boarding Air Force 1 (temporarily renamed) and leaving. This departure ceremony is technically a courtesy granted by the new President to the old President.
Trump wants to have that ceremony, but without having to go to Biden's inauguration. The only way he can do that is to grant HIMSELF the honour guard and 21 gun salute. My wife (and fellow Larry Sanders fan) just pointed out that that's like the Larry Sanders Show episode where Hank had to pay for his own 'Hankmobile.' HAH! That's EXACTLY what it's like! Very apt analogy.
