Trump and the Heavy Price of Racism: 400,000+ Covid Deaths, Record $3.1 Trillion Budget Deficit...

...a $63 billion trade deficit, the hottest year on record and an insurrection and coup attempt by right wing extremists.

While it is right to condemn many of Trump's racist supporters who have flocked to him based on his racist rhetoric, which is amplified by outlets like Fox, Newsmax and OAN, in many ways, Trumps own supporters are among the ones who have been most harmed by the policies of Trump and his Republican sycophants.

The Republican party, which likes to portray itself as the fiscal responsibility party has presided over a record setting single year budget deficit of $3 trillion. Trump bragged about how he was going to reduce the trade deficit, but instead Trump has only managed to alienate the U.S.'s trade partners even as the trade deficit grew to record setting levels.

Likewise, Trump and Congressional Republicans who either minimized the risk of COVID 19 and opposed measures to control its spread are nowhere to be found are refusing to take any responsibility as the death toll approaches 400,000 dead due to COVID-19.

Finally, 2020 was the hottest year on record as Trump and Republicans continued to deny the reality of climate change.

This is why the 2020 election and capturing the Presidency and Congress are not the end, but need to be the beginning of an effort to fight ignorance and combat hate. Hopefully, the mainstream media will not once again fall into the trap of trying to be neutral at the expense of being truthful, thus creating the false equivalencies that Republicans love to use to justify their extremism.

But, in the end, on an individual level, each of us will need to be an activist on daily basis, because as they attack on Congress demonstrated, we are so close to slipping toward facism given that over a hundred House Republicans still continued to support Trumps despite the disaster of the past four years.
