We don't have matching hats, or "No More Malarkey" flags waving from the backs of our trucks. Do you know why? Because Biden isn't our tribal warlord.
A rant worth a million parlers. On edit, thank you DUer, DAngelo136 for the inof. This guys name is Matthew Cooke.

(3,395 posts)But there is a way to find out.
If someone took their ballot and chose every Democrat without doing their due diligence, then maybe they are brainwashed.
Where I voted there was one local republican who had already been on the job and she had done a great job, on the other hand the Democratic candidate did not show well, so I voted for that one Republican. It takes us a couple of weeks to go through every person on our sample ballot, it is always harder to get info on judges, but we manage to do it at some point, and we we have completed our research we know we will be voting for the right people.
Let us not forget that Theodore Roosevelt was a republican, and most of us would have voted for him.

(21,107 posts)I vote straight Democratic ticket. There are NO good repukes. NONE. Not a one. And don't even try to bring up Romney. He may have a conscious at time, but he is a MF'er who gleamed his riches on the backs of laying off American workers.
It is what it is. That was THEN, this is NOW. There isn't ONE current repug that can be compared to Roosevelt.

(3,334 posts)You don't know everything you need to know about every Democrat. Just because someone calls himself/herself a Democrat doesn't mean that they will be good for the country, state, county, or city they are elected to.

(21,107 posts)pResident. That is not always correct, but more so than not.
I will ALWAYS vote straight Democratic Party, just because the past has shown me that repukes are corrupt and do not vote in MY best interest.
And this is why we have elections. You vote your conscious and I will vote mine.

(9,760 posts)I also do my best not to do business with Rs, or use R doctors, lawyers, etc.
Anyone who can call themselves an R in this day and age is not deserving of any political power or trust.
The GOP supported & enabled Trump, who is a racist, misogynistic sociopath who probably has never even read the US Constitution and who, after countless other inexcusable acts, incited and cheered on the violent mob of insurrectionists who attacked our Capitol as part of an attempted coup.

They do need "reprogramming," but that's too much like conversion therapy, which we correctly reject.
It is far easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled.

(2,399 posts)This piece is great...it puts it all together in one place. Best summation to date.
The problem is that it's preaching to the choir... the choir, of course, being people whose attention span is longer than a gnat's.
Anybody who has been following what has happened in this country since trump's campaign began in 2015 knows all this.
And the sad idiots who NEED to watch this won't. Because they can't focus that long.
trump's rallies were long, but they were comprised of dog-whistle-bumper-sticker-phrases that turned the crowd on, folded into long paragraphs that the faithful used to rest their brains.
You know the internet abbreviation tl;dr..? Too Long Didn't Read?
Well, the trumpers would say tl;cw. Too Long Couldn't Watch.

(18,636 posts)...focus on anything longer than a bumper sticker slogan, much like Trump himself.
Trump is a bullshit artist who was able to string a number of them together in a way that held their attention: Lock her up, USA USA USA, Make America Great Again, drain the swamp, build the wall, we are brainwashed morans! The list goes on & on.

(1,850 posts)If this was broken down to several clips, cult 45 members might listen and hear.
It's very good, comprehensive, but the audience he needs to reach doesn't have the attention span to listen or follow along for the entire video. The excellent points get smeared.
Like babies, it needs to be spoon-fed in smaller doses.
I loved his closing thought. Take that point (the nightmare is you!) and craft a short message focusing on that and cult mentality.
As I write this I think that should be the focus going forward. Call them out, label them as cult 45, cult members, brainwashed and manipulated, misguided. Highlight some dangerous cults we've seen before, draw comparisons, offer deprogramming!

(1,603 posts)I suspect that most of those who need to hear this won't get more than a few seconds into it before stopping. When you have been brainwashed into thinking that you are good and special, hearing that you're not is too much cognitive dissonance.

(129,096 posts)it was for the "intellectual/business/neocon/fiscal conservative" Raygun wing of the GOP who sat back and tacitly allowed their party to be overtaken by the loons for expediency. Their sidelines quiescence made them complicit to the events at the Capitol.
The brainwashed will always be "followers" with short attention spans, and they found their "leader". The rest of them have yet to find a "leader" to rally around to take their party back and that will be a problem for them moving forward, as they are now forever branded as cowards stunned into silence, while their party was set adrift by mindless CT amplified by echo-chamber pseudo-media personalities.
But in order to break free of the rot they fed, as a first step, they need to refocus by ceasing the waste of time of joining in the spouting of cherry-picked buzz words and whataboutisms formulated by their radicalized "base" as a way to "me too" use against Democrats for "street cred", while privately bemoaning the increasing extremism that has all but consumed their party.
And more importantly, they need to stop ignoring facts and reality and find ways to put their demon genie back in the bottle, and that includes ditching illegitimate and nefarious chaos instigators like Bannon and Gingrich. Otherwise they eliminate any chance to reclaim the policy positions, sans the divisive "wedge issues", that they used to hold near and dear, the promotion of which might have allowed them to actually appear to be something that resembles more a "political party" than a foaming-at-the-mouth cult cabal.
Instead they chose a path of being "anti-Obama", rejecting anything and everything he tried to do including offers to implement reformulated versions of the very policies that they used to tout. And their rejections, "Because. Obama.", essentially sealed their fate by eventually hollowing out their party until it was left with nothing but a core of racist, sexist, homophobic, and anti-science RW COS-players, participating in a game of "capture the flag" at a government facility near you.
If you don't stand for something then you'll fall for anything.

(1,752 posts)to push the "democrats in disarray" narrative whenever two democrats - gasp, horrors! - disagreed about something. I would just laugh and point out that that's what normal, non-cultish behavior looks like.
I think RW culture in general tends to be lock-step and cultish and either-or in their thinking, while LW is more open and inclusive - everyone gets to have a say about everything, and anything - and display more nuanced shades of gray thinking.
We are hardwired this way to some extent - theres actual sociological studies that say this. It doesnt excuse cultish criminal behavior though. And there certainly are exceptions to the rule - plenty of rigid inflexible thinking on this very forum!

(1,535 posts)....about the Trump years. Pride has always been my favorite of the seven deadly sins, because so many people see it as a good thing. Team pride, military pride, school pride, pride in one's accomplishments. These are all sold to us as good things, part of an overall picture of American pride. Sing it with me. "Proud to be an American".
