From CNN's Sam Fossum
Lead impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin said Sunday morning the article of impeachment will be sent to the Senate "soon," as he also passionately argued that President Trump's second impeachment was crucial for holding the President to account for his actions even as the Maryland Democrat deals with his own family's tragedy over the loss of their son to the illness of depression.
"I'm not going to lose my son at the end of 2020 and lose my country and my republic in 2021. It's not going to happen," Raskin told CNN on Sunday.
Raskin also addressed questions over the decision to pursue convicting a president of impeachment who is just days away from leaving office, arguing that Trump must be held accountable for his actions.
"I don't think anybody would seriously argue that we should establish a precedent, where every president on the way out the door has two weeks or three weeks or four weeks to try to incite an armed insurrection against the union or organize a coup against the union, and if it succeeds, he becomes a dictator and if it fails, he's not subject to impeachment or conviction because we just want to let bygones be bygones," said Raskin, a constitutional law professor.

(81,861 posts)Hes taken no time to grieve. I dont know how he can possibly lead an impeachment trial. It signals a certain amount of coldness to me.

(31,413 posts)When asked about why he was so open about Tommys experience with depression, and why he shared his suicide note, Raskin said: Why would we suppress that? I want to live by that note. That is my road map for the rest of my life.
He said, through his son, he found the fortitude to move on and keep working through the grief and strife. Last Wednesday, as he went back to the house floor, I really felt that my son was with me and you know, that may sound too mystical and spiritual or religious for some of my rationalist friends, but I felt very much the spirit of my son with me.

I do beseech others who are thinking of taking this awful, last step (taking their live). Don't! Please talk to someone first, talk to multiple people first. Things are not that bad, as you may think. Let others know. There are hotlines to call.
You are loved but don't see it or realize it, and if you're young, please give life a chance first. We all love you.

(49,002 posts)There is nothing unhealthy about spending less than the average amount of time to grieve.
I hope you are not wanting us to go the way of mandated grieving and social shunning of people who don't make a show and performance out of grieving even if they feel they have made their peace with it and don't need any more grieving except for people looking on and making judgments about their mental fitness based on externalities of appearance.
Further, you do not have an accounting of how he spends his time. If you do, you should share it to justify your point.
You know how he spent his time over Christmas and all that?
You know how he spends his time in the evenings and at night and first thing in the morning?
You've never heard of people using work as a positive expression of how they feel their lost relative would like them to move forward? Even as a kind of grief therapy.
You don't get it when he explicitly links the two?
You don't get that working to save his country might help him heal his loss?

A wonderful man.

(12,429 posts)He wrote this at 18. It's a piece of brilliant and compelling writing that comforts me to know there are young people out there who think this way. Despite the tragic circumstances of his passing, I see this young man's legacy as one of hope.
