Pentagon rejects Trump's request for military-style sendoff

President Donald Trump has been smacked down by the Pentagon in his request for an elaborate military-style farewell parade according to officials who spoke with Defense One.

The president, who has not yet truly conceded his loss to president-elect Joe Biden aside from two video statements following the insurrection of the Capitol on January 6, has additionally chosen to refuse to participate in several of the many traditional exercises in the handoff of power to the incoming administration.

Trump will not be leaving a letter of advice to the new president or hosting a one-on-one conversation, according to several news sources, such as CNN.

-snip-

Trump has been a big fan of the jingoistic military parades during this presidency. One such event in 2019 on Independence Day cost taxpayers millions for a flyover and tanks to roll through the nation's capital.

Traditionally, the Department of Defense hosts an Armed Forces Farewell tribute as a presidents' term or terms end. The ceremonies include members of the military meeting or visiting with the president in person and the president usually taking the time to thank the servicemen and women for the time under his presidency.

Sounds like it might be a low key affair.
