just how much the Humanity of human was missing from the White House for 4 years. Maybe it is the fact that those few minutes made me realize I am not the only 1 truly afraid of this virus and that it is okay for me to be sad. In my area of PA I am surrounded by MAGAs who start yelling at you for wearing a mask.
Those few minutes I felt like part of the American whole.
I truly hope that it begins to help heal grieving hearts and comfort to those scared of the unknown.

(5,815 posts)A prayer. Appropriate music. A lighting ceremony.
It was short and to the point. But it was exactly what was needed.
It acknowledged the loss and most of all, the pain of that loss.
Mr. Biden effectively took the reins as our leader and Ms. Harris was there as his partner in leadership. It was a vocal and visible reminder that we have a team leading us out of this darkness.
tRump didnt do it because he couldnt. He lacks the kindness, the empathy and the humanity to conduct even a simple ceremony. It was not about him and therefore of no interest to him. He has no capacity for feeling the sorrow and pain of others. Joe Biden knows too well the pain and grief of loss. So it was natural for him to ease into his role as our leader by holding a ceremony to share our grief and show us a path out of the darkness.
Another reason this needed to be tonight is so we can get off to a fresh start tomorrow. We needed to deal with the suffering Covid has brought upon us. Tomorrow will represent a chance to put into place policies and procedures (finally!) that we all hope will bring an end to this Covid scourge. Symbolically, it also gives us a chance to put the scourge of tRump behind us.
So may I add, hasten the day! We need and deserve a President who truly cares for the people of the United States. High noon tomorrow cannot get here too soon!

(6,929 posts)I see people wearing masks badly or not at all, though it has gotten better.
But never has anyone spoken up to me about wearing a mask.
I am a 5' 71yo white haired woman and they would hear from me loud and clear.
I may not look like someone with a foul mouth, but I am.

(790 posts)From your words to my heart. But, yet, another reminder:
The Daily Mail: Plane nasty -- Joe Biden and family arrive at Joint Base Andrews on charter plane after Trump REFUSES them government jet (despite a 757 sitting on tarmac) - after Joe cries during heartrending speech about son Beau

(10,095 posts)I felt proud again of the people we elected to represent us to the world. I can once again be proud when I see AF1 after tomorrow that decent human beings who love our country are on it. And I have hope now that we can contain the virus and that we will see good things from this administration instead of the constant evil we endured for the last four years.

(28,811 posts)i think the number and the magnitude of the loss of over 400,000 people is so overwhelming that the tendency is to emotionally turn away from it.
Duke had a carillion (SIC?) and they rang the bells 40 times, once for each 1,000 person and it was very moving, even from my bedroom.
