A story from this morning that is so incredibly, wonderfully ordinary at its core.

The Biden went to Mass at a church in Georgetown. The same church where JFK used to go. The Biden's are parish shopping. Okay. Lots of people do that. Its ordinary for a religious family like theirs when they move to new digs.

What got my attention was how, on the way home after Mass, they stopped at the wonderfully named "Call Your Mother" deli for some bagels and other breakfast goodies. That's a pretty common - yes, ordinary - thing people do after church services, whether at a deli, a diner, fast food, or maybe even the church's fellowship hall.

There is something completely marvelous about an ordinary man as our extraordinary President.

I think back on when I was a child, and after church, my brother and I would beg my dad to take us for donuts!

On a really big day, we went to IHOP.

I was in love with Obama. (Still am.)
Now I'm falling in love with President Biden.

that we could eat right away because Sunday dinner would not be ready right away.

So what the Bidens did brought back memories.

We had dinner at 6pm on Saturday, so we fasted from then until after Mass Sunday morning.
That is a lot of hours for kids to go without food. So we were hungry on the way home from Mass.

They were always pretty doggone busy on Sundays! Good stuff - and yummy. Most amazing short-order cook on the Westside! Watching him felt like watching a symphony conductor! He always had six different breakfasts going at the same time! You were lucky to get a seat at the counter where you could watch him work.

No stopping at the 19th hole after a round of golf? Surely the "Great Hope of the Evangelicals" wouldn't miss church on a Sunday morning, would he?

for folks who don't know it. It's delicious. I get it sometimes when they come to my local farmers market. I like their Za'atar bagel with salmon and cream cheese. They also have cookies and latkes for people who love carbs. https://www.callyourmotherdeli.com/

Life is nowhere near normal for them, for the most part. I guess they are used to a life in public, based on their career paths from their earlier years. I wonder how a return to "normal" life felt after 2016.
