I read the new administration hasn't decided whether they will be released or not.
My guess is they won't be. They could be explosive and take away momentum from Biden's plans.
But if they contain anything explosive that would be the very reason they should be released.

Most of us will need forensic accountants to fully understand the meaning of what is in those tens or hundreds of thousands of pages anyway. Just dumping them on the internet wouldn't be all that helpful. Even getting the taxes only opens the door to having to locate offshore/overseas/bogus accounts and run down suspicious transactions. Who is on the other end of those transactions? It will probably be a long process, way beyond simply getting our hands on his taxes.
The NYT did a very good job of pointing Americans in the general direction of where the suspicious activity lies. And before that, there were a number of good books like the one on Deutsche Bank (Dark Towers), and a couple of years before that Craig Unger's book House of Trump, House of Putin.
EDIT: I forgot to mention David Cay Johnson. He's shown remarkable tenacity in examining, to every extent possible, what might be gleaned from Trump's taxes.

(94,600 posts)Tax records are protected by privacy rules. Unless they are introduced as evidence in a trial, it would be illegal to make them public.
Now, could they be "leaked" by a member of Congress? Sure. But ask yourself if you're prepared to have Republicans leak the tax records of a Democrat you like.

More transparency might prevent a lot of weasels from being elected.
The current financial disclosure requirements are inadequate.

Governor candidate laws would have to be state laws. But there is no reason not to have a Uniform Election Code by agreement among the states, just as we have a Uniform Commercial Code of law that standardizes the state laws governing commercial transactions and contracts.

(18,486 posts)The issue is whether to release them to Congress. They no doubt will - they just need to go through the appropriate process.
