(19,066 posts)Brady and Donald are friends and have golfed together. Trump asked him to speak at his convention last Summer, Tom said no because he didn't want
He didn't want to publicly support Trump politically, not because of all the fascism, racism, and Xenophobia, but because he was worried what his teammates might think.
Brady explained how he felt uncomfortable juggling his friendship with Trump and the sudden political implications involved with that.
Yeah, Brady said. Well, he wanted me to speak at that convention too, and I wasnt going to do anything political.
Brady said he met Trump in 2001 and the friendship evolved as Bradys football career took off.
He would call me after games, I watched your game Tom, lets play golf together, Brady told Stern. So 2003, 2004, thats kind of the way it was. He would come up to our games and stand on the sideline and cheer for the Patriots. He had a way of connecting with people, and still does. But the whole political aspect came, and I got brought into a lot of those things because it was so polarizing around the election time. It was uncomfortable to me. You cant undo things not that I would undo a friendship but the political support is totally different than the support of a friend.
I didnt want to support, I didnt want to get into all the political ... theres zero win in anything in regards to that. Its politics, Brady told Stern. The whole political realm right now ... Im a person, from my standpoint, to embrace leadership. I got brought together in a locker room where I was trying to get along with everybody. In an outward sense, when you start talking about politics is about how you do you not bring people together, which is the opposite of what politics should have always been in our country."
Trump was just as awful of a person in 2001 as he is now. These "friends" of his have a duty to their country to denounce hate and they take the coward's way out.

You don't talk about (ahem) "politics" in the locker room -- because that would be polarizing.
Tommie -- the tap dancing really isn't working. You're buddies with Donald J. -- and have been for a very long time. That says something.

(15,265 posts)having watch Brady play the last 20 years he never talked politics. He got skewered when (might have been tRump hat) was spotted in his locker.
So I'm not defending his politics, whatever they are, but stating that he never brought politics up on any occasion that I can recall.

(15,265 posts)at all unsolicited. He wasn't some kind of Kurt Schilling idiot. That he was treated differently is a stretch. The Brady hate is off the charts .
I don't say the following to say that Kolin Kaepernick was wrong in kneeling, but Brady never made political statements on the field and other the the shitstorm over his tRump support, he wasn't vocal about his politics. In th ed 16 years prior that he joined the team he never mentioned politics.

But I AM pissed off that he turned his back on the New England fans for whatever reasons he had to go to Tampa Bay. I've been rooting hard against them all season, and will be doing so again in two weeks.
Plus, I like Pat Mahomes - he's got a chance to outdo everything Brady did if he can last 20 years. AND, he seems like a really nice, humble guy, too.
Called Trump decisive and refused to visit the Whitehouse after the last Pats SB win.

Im hoping Brady wins this one, and then goes with his team to visit the Whitehouse and shakes President Bidens hand and its covered extensively on Fox News. Trump will blow a gasket.
I am a lifelong Pats fan. I dont typically cheer for players who leave the Pats, and I think Brady should have retired a Patriot. But I cant blame him for leaving the Pats after having been offered only a 1 year contract. The Pats should have paid him.

(15,437 posts)Cap is certainly not a regular Democrat (or a Democrat at all). I love him and what he's done but he says some really out of the mainstream statements, such as abolishing prisons and cops.

She's the biggest reason nobody wanted to touch him. He was an average QB and it wasn't worth the trouble for a team to have her doing stuff like this all the time and them having to answer for it.
All of the evidence you need for that is to look at Eric Reid. He was right beside Kap doing exactly the same things, and he played in the NFL up until last season.

(6,229 posts)the Detroit Lions won't hire Kaepernick to replace Stafford.
Kap is older than Stafford, hasn't played a down of football in four years, and wasn't as good as Stafford when he was playing.
If the Lions are lucky enough to get a first rounder for Stafford they should flip both of their 1st round picks to Houston and snag Watson.

(1,648 posts)tRUMP congratulated the Chiefs last year and said something about them being in Kansas. Mahomes immediately put out a photo of him in a t-shirt mocking tRUMP about not knowing the Kansas City Chiefs are located in Missouri.
Mahomes doesn't seem like a person who would vote for tRUMP, based on his attributes to be inclusive for all without prejudice.

(6,537 posts)Brady, Belichek (sp), and Kraft are friends of Trump is why I moved on from them being my favorite team. I just couldn't take it.
I remember seeing an interview with Brady, where he stated briefly, something like his wife had told him not to talk about it. I knew then that it was a problem for him.
I moved on to Mahomes, a young man who appeals to me and who is very talented. I am hoping that he lives a good life with a lot of service in it. I want The Chiefs to win again.
Plus, they have T. Hill. I love watching him catch that ball.
