Stimulus check holdup

I don’t get it...the House passed a bill to add an additional $1400 the already $600 stimulus checks (albeit the old House)....the only thing holding it up was Mitch McConnell bringing it up for a vote on the Senate floor...there were several republican senators in favor of it including Josh Hawley....this was a talking point during the Georgia runoffs...I don’t see why the house doesn’t pass the same exact bill and send it to the senate for a vote....they are making it more complicated than it needs to be (at least for the stimulus portion)

I received $1200 last summer months after most of you reported to have received it. The $600 came by check last week.

It says "Payment #2 Status - Not Available, We are unable to provide the status of your payment right now because:
We don't have enough information yet (we're working on this), or
You're not eligible for a payment."

I don't need it but there are plenty who do.

The bill passed by the House would just increase the payout by $1400. That would be expensive, but nothing close to $1.9T.

Biden's proposal does that as well as add multiple other recovery measures. As an example for those of us with college-age kids - it adds them (as well as adult dependents) to the list of those receiving a payout.

And that’s the reason I said they are making it more complicated....stimulus should be a stand alone bill ...the rest they can fight over....that’s the problem with some bills, they become to large and everyone is fighting over something different from it

Some votes will only be there for the direct stimulus. They won't vote against a package bill that includes the direct payments... but they might vote against a second bill that just includes the other pieces.

Both sides moan and whine about such games (when they're in the minority), but sometimes it's the only way to get some things passed.

Explains what will complicate it & the steps Dems will take to move it forward.

The problem is the usual hard Right culprits.
Republicans have nothing to lose by being complete obstructing assholes at this point.

And they will do so with everything Biden & his Democrats propose.
Just because that is what they do.

My issue is that they are trying to do one massive bill instead of a separate one for the stimulus checks...thanks for the link and reply.

...& tryy to pass it on it's own.
Believing there'll be more support for it alone, if it's not included in the big package.

That may be true. The problem with this defiance from Repubs, is that it will delay the checks.

Like they did in Dec, to the point of it expiring before the next 10 weeks were kicked in.

Every one unvaccinated, unable to find a job will be threatened to the very last moment that the next week we will not have a penny coming in.

Doesn't work for me, but not like we get a say.

the $1400 supplement to the $600 is coupled with additional unemployment benefits to extend what we have into September. The sooner I have the additional unemployment approved, the easier it is to spend more than the absolute minimum necessary to stay afloat. I'm not going to fund any projects this spring unless I know the money doesn't run out end of March. They want the economy stimulated? Give me some certainty, the way the Rs whine about for big business!
