A Texas man charged with invading the Capitol and threatening Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Monday that he was effectively following then-President Donald Trumps orders when he joined a mob that stormed Congress on Jan. 6.
Garret Miller also apologized to Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for writing Assassinate AOC in a Twitter post. He said he would be willing to testify to Congress or in a trial about the riot.
Miller, 34, had on a social media account also threatened a Capitol Police officer who fatally shot a fellow rioter, saying he planned to hug his neck with a nice rope, authorities have said.
The Richardson residents apology came as a federal judge in Dallas ordered him detained without bail pending trial, after finding he was both a danger to the community and a flight risk, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Northern District of Texas.

(32,006 posts)A Columbus man accused of entering the U.S. Capitol and stealing a coat rack from the Senate during the Jan. 6 siege of the building was inspired to do so by former President Donald Trump's lies about election fraud, according to his attorney.
Based on video evidence, there are "very few factual disputes" about his client's actions on Jan. 6, when he was part of a mob that stormed the Capitol after a rally where Trump continued to claim that the election had been stolen from him, Shamansky told The Dispatch.
The focus of the defense, he said, will be how Thompson and others "got brainwashed to the point they felt duty bound to follow the encouragement of their commander-in-chief during a highly charged political rally immediately preceding the invasion."

(1,850 posts)So many who were arrested are using the "just following orders from the president" defense.
Enough to show a clear path to conviction.
After they testify, and get out of prison, then they can take a flying leap!
After they testify 45 will certainly try to make them suffer for it.

(14,764 posts)And they are duty bound to follow the orders of the cic.
Not even a remotely worthy claim.
Still, they have to be hoping for at least one radical magat on the jury.
