Tens of thousands of voters drop Republican affiliation after Capitol riot

Tens of thousands of voters drop Republican affiliation after Capitol riot
By Reid Wilson - 01/27/21 12:59 PM EST

More than 30,000 voters who had been registered members of the Republican Party have changed their voter registration in the weeks after a mob of pro-Trump supporters attacked the Capitol — an issue that led the House to impeach the former president for inciting the violence.

The massive wave of defections is a virtually unprecedented exodus that could spell trouble for a party that is trying to find its way after losing the presidential race and the Senate majority.

It could also represent the tip of a much larger iceberg: The 30,000 who have left the Republican Party reside in just a few states that report voter registration data, and information about voters switching between parties, on a weekly basis.

Voters switching parties is not unheard of, but the data show that in the first weeks of the year, far more Republicans have changed their voter registrations than Democrats. Many voters are changing their affiliation in key swing states that were at the heart of the battle for the White House and control of Congress.

1. The msm needs to report on how psycho the republican party is. I only watch MSNBC

But, if network tv is normalizing the psychosis things could get worse.

2. I always try to catch Brianna Kieler at noon? On CNN. She is done with bull and stupid. Every show,

She does a little special focus on some lunacy, almost always related to the GOP. That focus session is FABULOUS, details like with Rachel. Her words and video clips carry a hatchet, but with her deadpan demeanor, she gets away with it! You might want to give her a test drive!

6. Anyone who is a true patriot and a republican, can no longer be a republican.

I know that some of those people have deep multi-generational ties to the Republican Party, but except for the racists, the modern Republican Party is not the party of their grandparents or great-grandparents.

7. I don't believe the Repubs have abandoned trump. He IS their party.

"tens of thousands" don't mean shit!

"Former president Donald Trump’s popularity rating among Republicans has begun to bounce back since he left office, with half of respondents saying they think he should play a “major role” in the GOP’s future.
According to tracking by Morning Consult, 81 per cent of Republican voters polled between 23 to 25 January hold positive views of Mr Trump, including 54 per cent who do so strongly.
The number marks an improvement on the 76 per cent low of Republican voters who favoured him in tracking between 10 and 12 of January ahead of his impeachment when those who strongly favoured Mr Trump sat at 49 per cent.
Fifty percent of Republican voters in a poll by the company between the 22 and 25 of January also think Mr Trump should maintain a significant role in the party’s future, an increase of nine percentage points since the insurrection."

9. I was just looking at the PA data

and there is definitely a trend of Republicans switching to Democrats or Unaffiliated based on data they had as of 1/18/21 (although this may have been people who were Democrats in the past and had switched to Republican back in 2016 and before).
