(14,966 posts)The "volatility" as they call it was not "sparked" by reddit users. It was caused by the short sellers.
The reddit users and others just bought Gamestop stock and sat on it, refused to sell whatever the price, encouraged others to do likewise. Their whole thing was pointing out that the short sellers made a time bomb for themselves.
The blame belongs on the heads of wall street big shots who shorted something like 140% of the entire outstanding shares of that company, not random internet people.
