Many Democrats are concluding that Republicans are unlikely to work with them and that waiting for them to do so would be a mistake. Biden seems to be heeding that argument to some degree.

(31,261 posts)If we legislate well, then republicans will have tough sledding in the 2022 midterms, if we allow them to delay and stop progress, we are likely to get blamed for the outcomes.
We need to do what they did, when they had total power, they didnt remotely care about what our side wanted to do. I say stomp the shit out of them, get stuff done for Americans and take our chances in 2022.

(6,011 posts)Certainly in a positive way. It's just a matter of different styles and personalities.
President Joe is just "grittier" and, I believe, more street smart, with a lot of Washington experience.
He knows what he's doing. I can tell.
President Obama sometimes seemed too hesitant to me and, like you said, there was too much capitulation.
He seemed to be doing a juggling act at times, trying to please or appease as many as possible.
Still, I saw him as a good leader. He was serious about his job and our nation.
I'd like to see him as a Supreme Court Justice someday.

(15,286 posts)Obama was conciliatory by nature. Rs took maximum advantage of this. Biden is, too, to an extent, but he's not a pushover and won't be. He won't be mean to those who disagree with him, but he's not going to let them stand in the way either.

(8,049 posts)at the time. We eventually ended up where we are now, but if Obama had been more aggressive, we would have had this capitol riot a lot sooner, and Joe wouldn't have gotten to be president and do what he's doing now, and save our butts from these racist nutjobs.
Obama made sure we might have another black president someday by the way he governed. If he had gone (more) aggressive, it would be a lot more difficult for the ones coming behind him.

(62,270 posts)There's no reasoning with these fascists. Rural society is faltering. They can't support themselves and want the federal government to keep supporting them. Let the small towns die if we must. They do not want what is right for America, only for themselves, which causes the vast majority of Americans to suffer.

Dems must pass this bill via Reconciliation - voters want results and don't really care what process is used to deliver it.

We dont need the Van Joneses of the world. Republican mouthpieces come prepared for a fight, from second one starts spewing their nonsensical party line and refuses to yield the mike, our mouthpieces often stop to consider the republicans bullshit.

WHIP IT
WHIP IT
GOOD!
Crack that whip
Give the past a slip
Step on a crack
Break your mama's back
When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sits out too long
You must whip it
When something's going wrong
You must whip it
Now whip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It's not too late
To whip it
Whip it good
When a good time turns around
You must whip it
You will never live it down
Unless you whip it
No one gets away
Until they whip it
I say whip it
Whip it good
I say whip it
Whip it good
Crack that whip
Give the past a slip
Step on a crack
Break your mama's back
When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sits out too

(7,627 posts)For example, when social security was introduced, it was widely criticized as irresponsible by its detractors.
They wanted to kill it. Now, it would be unthinkable. Likewise, the ACA which President Obama signed after the democrats passed the bill with reconciliation and zero republicans is now part of the landscape and many people including gop voters would not want to lose its benefits anymore.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)If we pass it and go a poor job of implementation we get hurt in 2022 particularly. So, as you pointed out, we need all around good governance. One benefit of that is that people like DeSantis and Neom will cut their own throats in 2022 if they try to be obstructionists.

We should use their tactics and use any available tool to ram needed legislation right over their prone bodies. Screw bipartisanship when all they are trying to do is delay and defeat, they dont care about solving pressing problems.
