Can someone explain the heart giving?
I have received a couple of messages receiving hearts but I am not totally clear on what this is about (I get valentines day) or how it works.

1. All will be explained if you
read this https://www.democraticunderground.com/101311464 in the announcements group. It is a fundraiser.

2. DU uses it as a way to raise additional funds.
I love it, you can buy hearts and give them to people you respect on this site, or just because. I tend to give mine to oldtimers I have respected for a long time, and newbies who don't have any. A lot of us look forward to it every year. It is voluntary, lots of people don't participate. I see it as a way to give back to DU and say thanks to people at the same time.

3. I think it is a really nice way to show kindness. I give to people
I see who don’t have any. And to those I admire. I think it is a good way to brighten someone’s day.

4. Should mention that Star members (edit: apparently subject to conditions)
get a clutch of free Hearts to hand out ...
Edit: Maybe there are other rules/restrictions, sorry to misspeak earlier. |

5. Hey there...
I thought so too (re, Star member stash), but I'm not seeing those this time around. Can you remind me where I'd see them?

9. Bottom of every post for me it says 'Give a Heart to' the poster ...
That's how I know.
Maybe it requires being a monthly contributor? Not sure about the exact rules now that I think about it ![]() |

8. Yeah supposedly, but didn't happen last year for me.
And haven’t got any to give out this year yet either.

10. Sorry ... maybe the rules are more complex than I know ...
Probably should add a disclaimer.
