(7,812 posts)to vote for conviction to protect themselves politically. the rest will be told to vote against regardless of evidence and regardless of the number of constituents who would want conviction. The 16 may also include those retiring and not worried about other office.
Highly doubtful that McConnell and RNC and TPTB would leave this vote up to individual senators exercising their discretion and voting their consciences.
