The DOJ can make it difficult for Trump to ever run for office

If he is in prison for the rest of his life, it will be very difficult for him to run for office. Even harder for anyone to justify sending any funds to his campaign.

1. I do not think Trump will go to jail, ever.

Secret Service would not allow it for one thing.

8. Secret Service answers

to the Department of Homeland security. They dont make policy. If he was sentenced to prison, the SS would not stop it.

11. I hope you are right. The SS could argue they cannot protect Trump in prison.

And that is their federal mandate.

15. They can present info to the judge in terms of sentencing.

Claim national security issues, etc.

But I hope you are right.

6. But Republicans and the media will scream that an investigation is slowing the Biden agenda!

They'll say it violates "unity"!

Graham will promise to stop all progress in the Senate until it ends.

And some here will agree.

9. i wouldn't be too sure

absolutely, he should be prosecuted, and at the state level as well, for all his crimes.

but politically, the republican victim-fetishists would just love the story they'd invent that it was all just a political prosecution, and our pathetic media would eat it all up.

13. Personally,

I suspect the DOJ will be working out a nice little slow burn on Trump...a lot of it behind the scenes...and now there is a full justification for it, as the corrupt GOP has exposed themselves as what they are and justice has not been served.

The pressure valve of holding him accountable has not been opened: this seeming free pass for Trump gives them all the reason in the world to punish him by other means. So a long game presents itself.

Personally I prefer a death by 1,000 cuts for the fucker. He could be charged by multiple entities in multiple locations and that on top of all the fun things waiting for him in NY.

Or not...hard to say...he certainly wouldn't be the first (pseudo) rich old white dude to shit all over the world and live a comfy life in luxury while the rest of us sputter angrily at the injustice of it all.

We'll see. If his followers find another squirrel to chase, the image of him in prison in a year or two may not be a big deal for them...especially since he threw his MAGA insurrectionist hoards under the bus.

16. I don't want it to be difficult for him. I want it to be impossible.

Trump overcame weaknesses, flaws, and political disqualifications that would have sunk any other campaign in American history.

He should never be allowed anywhere near the mechanism of the American democratic process ever, ever again.

19. Washington DC, only 5% voted Trump.

You could easily find a jury that would listen to the facts and convict.

21. He can run from prison and could then run the country from the "big house"

instead of the Whitehouse, should he by some horrible misfortune win. He would be the first prisoner-President and first felon-President.
