Trump Frets Foes Will Be Suing Me for the Rest of My Life
BACK TO REALITY
Though the riot was the culmination of Trumps months of attempts to overturn the election, its hardly the only incident that may have left the ex-president legally exposed.

But with the Senate trial in the rearview, Trump is now confronting a whole range of other legal dramas during his immediate post-presidency. No longer shielded by the considerable legal protection of the Oval Office, Trump has privately bemoaned that his foes are going to be investigating or suing me for the rest of my life, according to one person whos discussed the matter with him in the past few weeks.

The power of the incumbency also afforded former President Trump the ability to dodge negative consequences for his alleged history of sexual violence and harassment. Another source close to Trump says that the ex-president continues to occasionally complain about the Me Too movement, decrying it as one of the more destructive movements to gain national traction during his one term in the White House.
A lawsuit filed by former journalist E. Jean Carroll claiming Trump defamed her by calling her a liarafter she accused Trump of raping her in a New York department store in the 1990sis still pending. Under Attorney General Bill Barr, the Justice Department tried to remove the case from state court and place it in federal court where department lawyers would handle the case on Trumps behalf.
Further, during the entirety of the Trump administration, Summer Zervos, once a contestant on Trumps now-defunct NBC reality TV show The Apprentice, had been trying to depose Trump in a defamation lawsuit. Toward the end of the 2016 presidential election, Zervos publicly accused the then-Republican nominee of sexually assaulting her, grabbing her breasts, and thrust[ing] his genitals at her. While he was in office, the official position of the White House was that the many women who had gone on-record to accuse Trump of sexual misconduct or assault were simply lying.
Early last year, a court in New York paused the lawsuit, thus postponing any potential deposition of the then-sitting president of the United States. But last week, Zervos and her attorney formally asked a judge to allow her to continue with her suit, given that he can no longer claim protections of the highest office in the land that his lawyers had long said shielded him from this deposition.
[The] Defendant now is no longer President. As a result, Defendants appeal is moot, Zervos lawyer argued in the new filing.

(22,035 posts)If they sell the show on PPV on a worldwide basis at, say, $99.99, and they got 200,000,000 viewers, the Trump family would clear $20 billion! They could pay all their debts and turn a tiny profit.
Come on, Jared! This is the solution to ALL of your problems. (Plus, Trump would stop learning at your wife.)

(4,291 posts)It's a bit more cowardly, so still within the range of options for #TFG "the former guy." Thank you President Biden for coining that nickname. Now it's up to us to make sure that moniker sticks.
He could leave the country.
Permanently.
I'm sure that the Russians, Saudis and people in other parts of the world would welcome him with open arms.
What happens once the Russian oligarchy or Mohhamed Bone Saw's assassins get their hands on him?
Who knows?
Might be fun to watch... from a safe distance.

(46,088 posts)but my guess is that none of the plaintiffs would accept the gag order. They'd want public vindication. Not to mention that Trump is not inclined to part with any of his money.

(47,419 posts)I anticipated that in the final chapter of Donald Trump's life, he would be in and out of court dealing with endless lawsuits. So even if he never goes to prison, he will be absolutely miserable and probably bankrupt.
After all, people are just going to do what Trump would do - Sue him relentlessly into oblivion and destitution.

(991 posts)Litigation is his middle name. Its more attention focused on him. Doesnt matter what kind. of attention it is. It keeps him in the spotlight. It gives him more material to foment chaos. It gives him more battleground to manufacture lies. It gives him a playground for bullying. He loves lawsuits. And he knows hes never held accountable. Its win win.

(302 posts)When he has to be deposed for that, he will have to go on record about all that good stuff. They will tie him in knots. The stakes will be high as everyone--including the DOJ--will be getting the transcripts.

(2,018 posts)You mean youre now coming to understand what YOUR sue-happy ass has been doing to other people, Dumpy? Like 60+ baseless election lawsuits, not to mention all the hell youve rained on people you refused to pay, or who simply wouldnt kowtow? The worlds smallest violin will be playing a freaking jig, because there is not one iota of sympathy that anyone has left for you and your detestable crime family. Feel free to die broke and in jail.

(6,679 posts)No lawsuits would deny him attention. Plus that would really screw up his ability to fleece the faithful on his victim status. He'll have to come up with a better reason.
On the other hand if he gets sued up to his whatsit to a point it drains the money train that would be used to buy more politicians, that is a win. There is only so much money his minions will send.
