So is there any attempt to get Manchin and Sinema to agree to changes to the filibuster

I realize they are opposed to out right removing it, but there are some changes that would make it less likely to be continually abused. One, make them supply the 40 no votes each time as opposed to making the other side provide the 60 yes votes each time.
Two, raise the number of no votes need to say 45 instead of 40 coupled with reform number one.
Three, at least require there to be named Senators behind these filibusters and all the votes sustaining them. Right now it literally just takes an email from any one Senator or his/her staffer and viola a filibuster is born.

on every topic being worked. That's a big of-course.

The variations you mention are interesting, but if they were on the table my guess is we'd be reading about it. Apparently low-population states don't see sufficient incentive to give away any of their leverage.
