I also don't HATE Andrew Cuomo. I've learned not to apply emotions to my candidate choices. I support and vote for people who can do a good job for me and the Country, AND can get re-elected to do the job again. When they can't I emotionlessly withdraw my support and place it elsewhere.
With respect to Andrew Cuomo, I wasn't a strong supporter, because he tended to be both a managerial bully and a micro-manager. That said, he was an easy re-elect because of the weak opponents put up by the Republicans.
With the combination of the nursing home scandal and the sexual harassment charges, I do not believe that Cuomo has good odds of getting re-elected for an extremely rare fourth term (the last was Nelson Rockefeller). He should resign in favor of Lt. Governor Hochul rather than give Republican a better chance of winning.

(9,998 posts)He went from a stable position as Governor of a significant State, to a potential Presidential nominee, and now someone who will likely lose if he runs for a 4th term.

Anna Ruch said she felt uncomfortable and embarrassed when Mr. Cuomo placed his hands on her face and asked to kiss her.

(15,325 posts)What? Has Cuomo had a chance to reply to what was happening when the pic was taken?
There's nothing in that pic that proves anything accusatory.
Nothing.
Cuomo stood up to Trump and he may be the victim of a political smear.
Claustrum
(4,846 posts)It can very well be a political smear but at the same time, making kissing jokes and trying to kiss random women is problematic for a public figure.
At the end of the day, I want more context as I have no idea what the relationship is between Cuomo and the woman. If they are close, that interaction is fine. But if they met for the first time, then I think it's problematic.

(3,635 posts)I've seen people pick others up and spin them around at parties. Her facial expression seems relaxed and smiling, as if having a good time, and there are lots of people around. Cuomo is also Italian, who are know to be more handsy and jovial folk.
Unless something actually damning comes out, I think Cuomo should fight this, as it sets an terrible precedent if people can just pile on to take down a powerful Dem. It is reminiscent of the women who claimed Biden was awkward around them etc, that culminated in the Tara Reid situation. It all just seemed 'timed' for political reasons. Biden stood firm and thank goodness he did.

(90,364 posts)... thread because #MeToo becomes #I'mConfortable, one women are being assaulted and raped the other people should speak up or set so clearer boundaries.
I have a problem when gone too far common social interactions are thrown in there with rape, assault, bosses taking advantage of people etc.

(43,499 posts)simply was opining that this women with a pic (and the fact that it is now multiple women) seems to be causing more and more Dems to call for his resignation. Nothing more than that.

(15,325 posts)The sex complaints don't amount to criminal nor much else out of context with one side making a mad rush to deny him the right to his side of the story.
I refuse to believe the one sided singled out & targeted remarks against a man who has the right to be legally heard.
Its an election year coming soon & the timing has a definate pattern to it.
I'd rather not repeat the Sen Al Franken fk up.
Claustrum
(4,846 posts)Al Franken's allegations are from his comedian days and his whole persona was a frat boy doing stupid sexual suggestive acts. That's different than the Cuomo's allegations when he is a politician.
I think I've seen interviews of Cuomo saying he is a hugger/kisser. We do live in a different era and these kinds of interactions are highly problematic nowadays. Even Biden talked about how he is a hugger and it is not as acceptable nowadays than 20 or 40 years ago.
To be frank, if not for COVID, I thought there would be sexual harassment allegation for Biden in the 2020 cycle with his "inappropriate" hugs (no, I don't think Biden has any ill intention hugs but the media will make it seem that way).

Claustrum
(4,846 posts)We live in the me-too era. We can't have politicians that gets handsy or huggy with people. Some interactions (like kisses or close hugs) are just better left only done with close friends, not some random people you first met in a party or political events. You never know who in the crowd is out to get you and make a story to kill your political career.

These pics don't seem like a #MeToo moments seeing some people are people raped and assaulted and people taking advantage of authority.
#I'mUncomfortable isn't #MeToo
"no, I'd rather not" and shake his hand seemed appropriate in the moment

(787 posts)If you are in New York, I hope and pray that you vote for him when he runs again for Governor. We can't let another Governor seat fall to a republican.
Lady_Chat
(561 posts)Just thinking back to what things were like here a year ago. It was hell on earth. My husband would come home from his shift physically and emotionally exhausted, from the number of so many people dying, it was hard to keep up, and they were running out of PPE. There was no direction from the federal government, including finding the necessary PPE and ventilators that were so desperately needed, that was left up to the states. Cuomo was calm, reassuring, intelligent, well informed. He explained to New York just what we had to do bring this under control, and people trusted and listened. This saved a lot of lives. He wasn't afraid to wear a mask and encouraged it. He had a lot on his plate and he handled it extremely well. People all over the country started listening to his press conferences and they were paying attention too. He brought other governors together to try and plan what they could do to get through this crisis, with little federal help. The alternative was Trump, how this wasn't "serious", how everyone would be back in church by Easter, how wearing a mask, was something he would never do and how it took away your freedom and they should rebel, how great he was he was, how it was all lies, and to go drink bleach. For the actions Cuomo took during this pandemic I will always be grateful.
Now I know these women have a right to be heard, even though I question their accusations. There are a lot of republicans that would love to see Cuomo gone as well as some Democrats on their own power trip. But I hope this Democratic party doesn't do what they did to Franken, and urge him to resign quickly, with no support and not allowing him a chance to be heard.

(22,913 posts)...unless Cuomo admits that his behavior was inappropriate and voluntarily steps aside. It's a dangerous precedent to be able to drive powerful figures out of office based solely on a handful of allegations without establishing first that those allegations have a sufficient basis to be believed. My own gut is that Cuomo will not fair well in a real investigation, and if that is the case he must be replaced.

(52,166 posts)she is, by any account, vastly more conservative than he is (and he was no bargain for progressives). To take one issue, she is in favor of religious restrictions on LGBT marriages he is not. Thus, if a judge is religious, he doesn't have to marry two men or two women. If the issuer of licenses in your jurisdiction is religious no license for you. She is also against most sensible gun laws. Elections shouldn't be overturn because we might lose the next one. I agree he should be primaried if he chooses to run again but elections should matter.

(94,727 posts)They both ran in 2018 and were both elected.
As for: "she is, by any account, vastly more conservative than he is", I can think of someone vastly more conservative than SHE is: a Republican winning in 2022.

(52,166 posts)pick her out of a line up, and that the number who voted for her and were indifferent to him could fit in a phone booth. I agree he shouldn't run, but he was elected, she wasn't, at least not in any meaningful sense of the word. It also should be noted, that say this were NC, we have a republican, a Trump Republican, Lt Gov. If we have three people say this stuff about Cooper should every AA voter in our state accept having voting rights here gutted for a generation or two?
