If it's as popular as some say, it ought to be a slam dunk in the progressive states.

(1,114 posts)We have unions in PA. In PA school local school boards pick education plans. the school district I went too had a very good program in place. I will say majority of the board was democratic lead.

That being said, it's not really a population issue. Many blue states and a lot of cities have stayed well ahead of the federal rates for years. Some of the states where people could most benefit from a boost are decidedly red. That is, of course, part of the problem. The GOP wants them poor and, by extension, unmotivated and undereducated.

(25,492 posts)Texas is the second most-populous state in the country. The common "people don't live in red states" refrain that some espouse isn't really accurate.

(36,355 posts)I correctly pointed out that many of them have low populations while many of the blue states have high populations.
If Texas didn't raise the minimum wage, it's citizens would be no worse off then they are now. If progressive states raised their minimum wage to $15 an hour, many millions would benefit.

(31,261 posts)It actually reaches $15 faster than the Federal proposal.
I agree with your basic premise. If the $15 wage is as popular as polls show, it should pass in every state that has voter referendums, and passage in those states would put pressure on legislatures in states when voters cant approve a higher wage.
