Hope re the filibuster!

If you didn't see the segment on Lawrence O.'s The Last Word with Norm Ornstein, be sure to see it on re-run. He describes the way around the choke-hold we're in re the filibuster, AND it gives a nod to Manchin and Sinema so that they don't have to go against their promises to their voters to preserve it.

I went to bed so depressed last night that we are so screwed without passing HR1, and that it won't be possible to pass it in the Senate, but Ornstein's plan lifts us out of that hole, and I have hope tonight!

Ornstein's plan would revive the original intent and process of the filibuster and shift the burden of executing it once again to the minority, rather than letting them not even have to lift a finger to stop legislation. Sorry that I can't explain it in more detail but here's Ornstein's article in the WAPO.

filibuster to their voters? THAT is what they promised to do if elected? What a ridiculous thing to promise when there are so many problems that need to be addressed that would help their voters.

There are too many small thinking people in
Congress.

He seems quite adamant about keeping it as is. It sure would be nice though. If Schumer and a few others could persuade Sinema and Manchin to relent, and change a few things about the filibuster, the country would be far better off for it.

Republicans do it when they're charge. When it suits them.

I've been feeling the same way... Ornstein's suggestion gives optimism if Schumer takes it on.

What does he have to lose?

Honestly, why didn't he think of it himself?
