Criminal Complaint
A Capitol rioter who was arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer during the insurrection says he was beaten up in prison. Bruno Joseph Cua is the youngest person facing charges for taking part in the attack by a pro-Trump mob on Jan. 6. Mr. Cua was assaulted and then threatened by a fellow inmate over this past weekend, his lawyer wrote on Monday as part of a request for his release ahead of trial. We understand that the inmate struck Mr. Cua in the face with his open hand, injuring his nose, over the use of the phone, and then threatened him regarding the incident. Cua also tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, and his lawyers are requesting that he be allowed to quarantine at a hotel in order to avoid spreading the disease. In photos of Cua storming the Capitol, he doesnt appear to be wearing a face mask.
having problems finding much sympathy for this fool

(15,862 posts)Are jails supposed to be a place for additional punishment more then the judge gave? Getting beat up of pushed around in jail is not part of punishment. Now that is a reform for the bigger picture for law enforcement reform. Nobody should be able to assault somebody in a jail. If it was an African American getting tossed around by proud boys in jail, Id be furious. Jails are a place for punishment but not additional punishment.

Assault on a Federal Officer;
Civil Disorder;
Obstruction of an Official Proceeding;
Restricted Building or Grounds;
Enter or remain on the floor or gallery of either House of Congress,
Violent Entry or Disorderly Conduct,
Engage in physical violence,
Obstruct, or impede passage, and parade,
demonstrate, or picket on Capitol Grounds
That assault charge will send him to prison.

(57,134 posts)... we do not want extrajudicial punishment or have inmates become our representatives in extrajudicial, unconstitutional punishment/justice. And he has to go along to get along.
He committed a crime. He assaulted people who were injured. Like any other criminal he gets to go through the process. I'm a lot more concerned with kids in prison sentenced as adults in adult prison with adult sentences including life without parole.
His getting slapped because he didn't know or ignored the fact there is someone inside who has the phone concession truly doesn't bother me a bit.
And: this isn't some simple assault case he's been arrested for, this was an assault in the pursuit of insurrection.

(19,082 posts)They're viewed as White Supremacists who hate our country. They're just in jail right now, but when they go to prison, they're going to probably be forced to join the Aryan Brotherhood gangs where they can really good a good look at Trumpism.

(57,134 posts)... to not commit a crime. Another good method once you are arrested is to not be a dick by insisting on your "privilege" or "rights" with people who feel they have no rights or privilege.

(20,136 posts)is to have a system that ensures as best as is possible that such violence never occurs.
I hope you dont think that everyone whos in jail has committed a crime, by the way. Aside from the innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted, many people are being held before their trial has even been held. Such as in this case.
