WARREN — The city is expecting to receive an estimated $29 million in COVID-19 relief funds from the federal legislation that passed Wednesday and is expected to be signed by President Joe Biden, according to Warren Mayor Doug Franklin.

The mayor announced the amount during his presentation at Wednesday’s council meeting. Franklin said he learned the amount of federal funds that may be coming to the city from U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Howland, and Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, only moments before the council meeting began.

“I wasn’t expecting that amount,” Franklin said.

Franklin said the city likely will receive the second-largest amount of funds scheduled to come into the county. Only the county will receive more COVID-19 relief.
