Conservatives have defended the Capitol rioters by pointing out they weren't carrying firearms, but that doesn't mean they weren't carrying weapons.
Charging documents show participants in the Jan. 6 insurrection carried stun guns, chemical irritants, baseball bats and flagpoles they used as clubs, and one person who remains at large planted pipe bombs near the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican parties the night before the siege, reported NPR.
"This was a pretty heavily armed crew of people compared to what you usually see at protests," said Heidi Beirich, a co-founder of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism. "Even when you see people who are armed at protests in states, for example, where they have open-carry laws, they aren't storming into a building using the weapons in the way that we saw at the Capitol."
Rioters allegedly bludgeoned law enforcement officers with hockey sticks, flagpoles and fire extinguishers, according to court documents, and many carried high-power stun guns and similar less lethal weapons that posed a grave threat to police.

Some supporters of former President Donald Trump have argued that the dangerousness of the Capitol rioters has been overblown. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., has said, for example, "This didn't seem like an armed insurrection to me."
Others have echoed that view, and conservative and pro-Trump media, like Breitbart, The Epoch Times and the Washington Examiner, have seized on the congressional testimony of FBI Assistant Director Jill Sanborn, who said the bureau did not confiscate firearms from suspects that day. But FBI spokesperson Carol Cratty told NPR that Sanborn was talking only specifically about arrests by the FBI, and not other police agencies that made arrests on the day of the riot including arrests of people allegedly carrying guns.

Without that he has potentially no income to provide for himself, said Jose Alejandro German, Daughtrys public defender. These are conditions that are really impacting his life.
Daughtry is charged with entering restricted areas outside the Capitol, including climbing the scaffolding that had been erected for President Joe Bidens inaugural. The charges are misdemeanors, although prosecutor Graciela Rodriguez Lindberg suggested they could be upgraded to felonies as the investigation continues.
Lindberg argued against allowing Daughtry access to guns, pointing to social media comments that were concerning to the government.
The comments included a Facebook post for his home gun business offering to sell assault rifles and ammunition ahead of the November general election. It may be your last chance if the election dont go right tomorrow, he allegedly wrote.
In another post, he offered to sell anti-liberal bullets.

Link to tweet
A former Army Green Beret with more than two decades of service was arrested Wednesday and charged with using a flag as a spear against a police officer during the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, according to an FBI criminal complaint unsealed Thursday.
Retired Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey A. McKellop donned a helmet and gas mask and moved toward D.C. Metropolitan Police lines as they attempted to prevent a mob of rioters from breaching the Capitol building at about 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, the complaint alleged.
Police body cameras caught McKellop pushing police officers, trying to grab a riot control spray canister from one officer and throwing a flagpole like a spear at another, causing a laceration to that officers face, the complaint alleged.
Screenshots included in the complaint showed McKellop wearing the same helmet and ballistic vest that he used in an overseas combat zone in 2018, according to one of two witnesses who came forward to identify him to FBI agents.

She documented her activities heavily on social media both before and during the deadly siege.
The FBI caught wind of Howells involvement when two witnesses provided online tips that Howell had recorded her exploits at the Capitol and shared the video on social media. One tipster told the FBI Howell appeared to be inciting the crowd in order to storm the building. Among Howells alleged chants, the tipster said, were [w]hos [sic] house, our house!! and fight for trump [sic]. The Kleins then entered the building, and celebrated with another member of the Proud Boys screaming, proud of your fucking boy, the documents state.
The Kleins then allegedly exited the building and forced open a door on the buildings north side. Seeing federal law enforcement officers on the other side of the door, prosecutors said, Matthew Klein put on goggles and advanced on the officers carrying a yellow Gadsden flag affixed to a flagpole.

Five minutes later, after pulling away the barricades, rioters overrun the police line. Some officers later regroup in a key doorway, where they will fight a brutal battle that lasts for more than two hours, during which a mob will drag at least four officers into the crowd.

WASHINGTON Beverly Hills esthetician and eyelash stylist Gina Bisignano was so present on social media that the federal criminal complaint against her practically wrote itself.
The story of a 52-year-old salon owner who charted a dark path of disinformation to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, where she allegedly grabbed a bullhorn and urged rioters to take up weapons, is backed by one social media post after another embedded in the Department of Justice filing.
There is Bisignano in her Louis Vuitton sweater, filmed in front of the Capitol talking about her business and hometown as the riot was getting underway. There she is again, addressing rioters with a rant about globalists, George Soros and stolen votes. And again, calling for weapons and gas masks moments before a rioter attacks an officer with what appears to be a baseball bat.
Now, Bisignano has gone silent online. She is not allowed on the internet. Not because social media platforms banned her, but because a federal judge did. If Bisignano goes online while awaiting trial, she risks being jailed....
