(102,376 posts)which makes my usual carrier (United) less convenient. So, as with Coca Cola, that's an easy boycott.

The AJC's explanation of the new law on drop boxes:
Btw, note the "authorized," not mandated. As few as one in a county is now "authorized" without requirement to place even that.
I wish we had tickets to cancel!

(745 posts)I don't understand what the tweeter is saying.
The statement says:
There are a few good things in the legislation like codified Sunday voting.
we understand that there are some bad things.
we will continue to work to improve access to voting.
that's not praising that's a 'there's some good things and some bad things' statement - aka a fairly neutral statement.

(745 posts)Tweet says OMG 'bad things' , see here.
I read the 'see here' bit and it completely doesn't agree with the tweet headline. Bad tweet. I am not going to spend time doing more research. It's not going to make the tweet any better, it's bad regardless. If the tweeter had.. you know... something that corroborates their headline they should have cited that instead of citing something that doesn't.

(113,581 posts)that codified sunday voting is okay, clearly you understand exactly what it entails, having already done the research.

(1,364 posts)I am not surprised, Delta and Northwest Airlines (NWA) merged and transferred corporate from Minneapolis (a union state) to Atlanta. The reason: the airline claimed they had to move corporate in order to save the airline. All the pilots, flight attendants, etc took major price cuts and the union was broken. The mastermind, that broke the union, bragged about being paid $60 million dollars bonus for breaking the union (which was a ton of money back in the day). It appears they are bragging about voter suppression......some things never change. Just another company to boycott.

(4,428 posts)The statement says that Delta is committed to full and equal access to the polls for everyone. It says that the passed legislation was better than what was initially proposed and lists some things that most people would consider wins. It also says that they remain concerned about other things in the bill and will remain engaged to try and get those things fixed.
A fire breathing condemnation of the legislation would have been nice, but Delta doesnt generally do that. They actively back a lot of good stuff IRT gun control, the environment, LGBTQ issues, and yes, in this statement, full and equal access to the polls for everyone. What am I missing?

(20,631 posts)give money to both Democratic and Republican candidates. I'm familiar enough with how corporations work, and they all have huge legal teams which craft incredibly weaselly strategies on selected issues.

In Summary
Delta issued the following statement from CEO Ed Bastian on Friday following passage of election bills by the Georgia General Assembly.
Delta believes that full and equal access to voting is a fundamental right for all citizens. Over the past several weeks, Delta engaged extensively with state elected officials in both parties to express our strong view that Georgia must have a fair and secure election process, with broad voter participation and equal access to the polls. The legislation signed this week improved considerably during the legislative process, and expands weekend voting, codifies Sunday voting and protects a voters ability to cast an absentee ballot without providing a reason. For the first time, drop boxes have also been authorized for all counties statewide and poll workers will be allowed to work across county lines. Nonetheless, we understand concerns remain over other provisions in the legislation, and there continues to be work ahead in this important effort. We are committed to continuing to listen to our people and our communities, and engage with leaders from both parties to ensure every eligible employee and Georgia voter can exercise their right to vote.

It must be fact!

(17,486 posts)I don't take random Twitter guy's tweets as factual, so I checked.
It appears to me to be a fact that they published it on their website rather than internally. It is a fact that the comments they made are what was in the tweet.
The contents make no sense to me after reading summaries of the Georgia bill so the statement from Delta is not factual.

(7,286 posts)The tweet does not seem to be accurate
Not an internal memo ( makes it sound juicy)
Not praise ( makes things up)
You are wise to be circumspect when it comes to twitter
I have been suckered one too many times.

(61,698 posts)Vote counting when they don't like the results? The core of the bill is the gop takeover of local elections so they can throw out ballots.
