Trump is losing the war over his legacy

Philip Bump 27 mins ago

-snip-

Most modern presidents, even controversial ones like George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, have at least enough institutional legitimacy to be seen as reliable interlocutors about their own tenures. One can envision either of them or Barack Obama sitting down alongside a panel of historians at an event hosted by a prominent university, discussing presidential decision-making and its ramifications in good faith. It's quite difficult to imagine Trump doing the same thing, as difficult as it is to imagine his sitting down with someone like NBC News's Lester Holt and offering his honest assessment of his own missteps.

Trump spent all of his political capital on trying to stay president, first by constantly misleading the public and, after the 2020 election, by stoking the dishonest claim that his second term had been stolen away. Since the moment the U.S. Capitol was first breached on Jan. 6, an event far beyond any acceptable political activity, Trump has repeatedly tried to excuse those who participated — Trump supporters all. Speaking to Fox News’s Laura Ingraham last week, he ridiculously claimed that those who had beaten law enforcement officers and broken windows in a last-ditch attempt to overturn the election results had, in fact, simply been “hugging and kissing the police and the guards” in the facility.

Fox News is one of Trump's few outlets for speaking to the public at his point. The network, eager to win back the portion of its Trump-positive audience that peeled away after it had the gall to recognize that he'd lost, is happy to have Trump exclusives and its hosts have little inclination to push back on the former president's obvious falsehoods — which suits Trump just fine. Trump no longer has his Twitter or Facebook accounts, seeing them stripped away in the wake of Jan. 6. He lamented the loss of that audience in his interview with Ingraham but tried to put a positive spin on it.

“So I put out statements now ‘from the office of’ and the statements are picked up by everybody,” he said, referring to tweet-esque press releases that his team occasionally puts out. “I mean, it actually works better.”

Of course it doesn’t. The visibility of those statements relies specifically on their being “picked up” by the media, meaning that the media has an opportunity to note when their contents deviate from reality. This was the entire reason Trump used to celebrate his Twitter account: it reduced the intermediary role of the press. Now, he relies on the media to propagate what he has to say. The right-wing media will do so uncritically, but no one in that universe has the audience that Trump did, nor are they reaching those who might be persuaded on Trump’s legacy.

Including the deaths of over half a million Americans. It would be difficult to go downhill from there, although Trump appears to be making a valiant effort to that end.

He is a narcissist and does not possess even a shred of objective capability. He could never, whether on his own or on a panel, view anything he has ever done as anything less than perfect. He is, and has always been, that damaged of a person.

You will find the orange moron sitting at the bar of his former resort, kept on by a sympathetic right wing buyer to add "character" to the venue. he will be occasionally be marched up on stage to say a few mumbles to the aging audience of post geriatric right wing zombies who will applaud via touch screens. he will then be quickly shuffled off after straying into insane territory (hard to tell from his usual ramblings) then told to go sit at the bar and sign autographs.

basically, the orange asshole will become a former pro fighter greeter at Caesars palace.

The RepubliCONs loathe TRUMP at this point. He has shot his load, so to speak.......(no big deal if you listen to Stormy Daniels...LOL)

These New/Quasi/Fascist party would love nothing more, except to completely divide him from their party and have his pathetic ass walk off into the sunset.

He has fulfilled his usefulness for the most part.

The overwhelming problem the Repubs are facing, is how to grift his 70+million voters away from following TRUMP INC and to come over to the New, Quasi RepubliCON Fascist Party. AND THAT IS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS. The RepubliCONs have already been doing 24/7 hammering away by themselves at all of Trump Inc's talking & ranting points, to a very tepid response from his voters.
At this point, they don't know whether to shit or go blind. FOX NEWS is caught in the same place, or even worse. Their profits are at stake with their listenership having fallen off since TRUMP INC has left office. The Second Layer of Trump Sycophants being interviewed by Fox's hard right interviewers are falling flat of rallying the audience. At this point, Fox News doesn't know whether to shit or go blind either. They are lost, and Murdoch is throwing anything and everything at the newsrooms walls and seeing what sticks.
For the time being, the RepubliCON party is concentrating on the individual states while they figure out the National Republican Scene.
You know, the typical tsunami of theirs at state level, Gays-Guns-God. Their go to points in every election to stimulate their voter's passions to get out, off their butts and vote. Works every time. This time they have thrown in big double punch mainliners.......
Oblivion of Minority and Dem's voting rights, AND have started a huge push tearing away at the Abortion rights.

And it is not only FOX, Limbaugh's RW Radio Audience, and QAnon, etc.
There is another humongous group that is going to be pushing harder than they ever have. The ones in the background, hiding quietly in the shadows, gently and subtly Reporting certain things, and decidedly not reporting other things. Every thing subtly written from a Corporate/Right Wing/Fascist slant, and articles that also subtly are meant to trash on the Democrats.
They are called the Massive Right Wing Media. You know, the "mainstream" newspapers, network stations, etc etc etc.
THEY ARE ALL 80%+ OWNED BY UBER RICH REPUBLICON'S. All of their reporters and on screen talking heads know well enough not to deviate from what the owner wants them to write or talk about. They are making good money, and don't want to be obliterated from tier jobs for simply not being accurate and lying in their so called reporting............

This is what the Dems face, and I would love to say they are ready for it. Instead, they are going after some items, shooting from their hips with the daily "Soup Du Jour" that is in their faces. There is no true leader, organizer and person who makes sure an overall plan is in existence, and makes it happen. They are still playing patty-cake and trying to make nice with party defectees, Dino's, and others that are holding up the show from making great overall progress.

These RepubliCONs are going for broke this time, just as we should. If they are "anything goes", we should be "anything goes"
They are out for blood, like never before, dumping Democracy, installing a Corporate Right Wing Fascist Tyranny, and taking out the Dem voters. This is it for them, no more soft attempts like Jan 6th. They are in this for the kill shot people.

This.Is.It.....People.

He alone stands apart from actual Presidents of the United States. He was, and always will be, a buffoon, an accidental important person, a criminal neer do well who was born halfway between third base and home plate, who's convinced he hit a home run.
History will not be kind to Donald Trump, and deservedly so. He'll settle into history somewhere between Adolf Hitler and Soupy Sales.

Watching clips of his "rallies" still shakes me to my core. They're right up there with Hitler's manic addresses to the German people. The only drawback is Drumpf will never live to see how he's written about in the history books. Hopefully the name "Trump" will be viewed in the same light as Hitler and Mussolini, and his heirs will be ridiculed and shunned like the pariahs they are.

Trump lives in a House of Mirrors, and that's all he's ever needed to hone his monstrous ego. Trump is in a crowd when he's all alone.
