Trump fan who called MAGA riot 'proudest day of my life' arrested after feds discover Facebook boasts

MLive.com reports that Anthony Williams of Southgate, Michigan shared plans on his Facebook page to attend the January 6th "Stop the Steal" rally and then bragged about breaking into the Capitol building in the days after the riots.

In a Facebook post after the riot ended, Williams went so far as to say the violent demonstrations at the Capitol were the "proudest day of my life lol" and predicted that America's founders were "smiling down on us" for launching a violent demonstration that left five people dead.

2. Former Trump chief of staff calls ex-President's Capitol riot claims 'manifestly false'
Mon Mar 29, 2021, 02:07 PM
Mar 2021

Mick Mulvaney says Donald Trump is lying. Trump’s former chief of staff described his former boss’ attempts to whitewash public perceptions of the Capitol insurrection as “manifestly false.” Mulvaney said he "absolutely would” still vote for Trump in 2024.

The former chief of staff to ex-President Donald Trump on Saturday pushed back against his former boss' recent attempt to whitewash the history of the January 6 Capitol riot.

Mick Mulvaney, who stepped down as Trump's special envoy to Northern Ireland after the insurrection, called Trump's comments that his supporters were "hugging and kissing" police officers and posed "zero threat," despite widespread violence, "manifestly false."

"I was surprised to hear the President say that. Clearly there were people who were behaving themselves, and then there were people who absolutely were not, but to come out and say that everyone was fine and there was no risk, that's just manifestly false -- people died, other people were severely injured," Mulvaney told CNN's Pamela Brown on "Newsroom."

"It's not right to say there was no risk, I don't know how you can say that when people were killed," he added.

3. Texas Att. Gen. Ken Paxton refuses to release texts and emails that he sent during the insurrection
Mon Mar 29, 2021, 02:12 PM
Mar 2021

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is refusing to release texts and emails that he sent during the pro-Trump rally and ensuing Capitol insurrection.

The Texas attorney general’s office is attempting to withhold all messages Ken Paxton sent or received while in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 for the pro-Donald Trump rally that preceded the assault on the U.S. Capitol.

Several news organizations in Texas have requested copies of the attorney general’s work-related communications. The Texas Public Information Act guarantees the public’s right to government records — even if those records are stored on personal devices or online accounts of public officials.

After Paxton’s office refused to release copies of his emails and text messages, the Houston Chronicle, the San Antonio Express-News, the Dallas Morning News, the Austin American-Statesman, the Texas Tribune and ProPublica began working together to obtain the documents and review Paxton’s open records practices.

The news outlets discovered that Paxton’s office, which is responsible for enforcing the state’s open records laws, has no policy governing the release of work-related messages stored on Paxton’s personal devices. It is unclear whether the office reviews Paxton’s email accounts and phones to look for requested records, or whether the attorney general himself determines what to turn over — without any outside checks.

4. The Hidden Hand Of Facial Recognition In The Capitol Insurrection Manhunt
Mon Mar 29, 2021, 02:27 PM
Mar 2021

At 19, Matthew Jason Beddingfield was charged with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting another teenager in the head in the parking lot of a North Carolina Walmart. Police said Beddingfield fled the scene in a Dodge Charger, but turned himself in the next morning, on Dec. 14, 2019. He was held in jail on $1 million bond, and was released a few weeks later when the bond was lowered to $100,000. He was still awaiting trial when the coronavirus pandemic hit the United States.

The shooting received heavy news coverage in North Carolina, and numerous mug shots and photos of Beddingfield appeared online. The defendant’s father, Jason Beddingfield, spoke to reporters and said his son had shot the 17-year-old because he’d been robbed.

Just over a year after Matthew Beddingfield was released from jail ahead of trial, a mob of insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol in support of outgoing President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Jason Beddingfield was there on Jan. 6. “We are here to take this country back from those commie bastards,” Beddingfield, 52, wrote in a Facebook post that featured photos of the crowd in front of the Washington Monument for Trump’s speech.

Jason Beddingfield admits he made his way to the Capitol on Jan. 6. Videos discovered by citizen sleuths and by HuffPost show a man who looks identical to Jason Beddingfield hopping over barriers while holding a Trump flag and storming past bike racks moments after members of the mob ripped them down. At the same time, approaching the Capitol via a different path, a young man holding an American flag led a crowd and shouted at the police. Soon the young man was brawling with cops at the front of the police line. He later entered the Capitol building, and emerged from the Senate side after being pepper-sprayed.

5. Fencing around Capitol comes down more than 2 months after insurrection

The outer fencing put up to protect the US Capitol following the January 6 insurrection has finally started to come down, allowing the public to regain access to the iconic building's grounds.

The outer fencing put up to protect the US Capitol following the January 6 insurrection has started to come down, allowing the public to regain access to the iconic building's grounds.

CNN observed National Guardsmen beginning the removal process this weekend, and by Sunday, much of the black fencing that had made the complex a fortress for nearly three months had been taken apart, making way for the typical parade of joggers, bicyclists and other visitors to once again make use of the green space.
The removal will come as a welcomed change to a public used to having a generous amount of access to the grounds, something that quickly changed after the US Capitol Police on January 6 temporarily lost control of the building to a pro-Trump mob in a siege that left five dead.
In the weeks after, officials erected the fencing -- some of which was replete with barbed wire -- and, aside from the scores of guardsmen and other security people stationed around the perimeter, the only people allowed to enter the grounds were lawmakers, staff, escorted guests and members of the media.

6. 'The plan was insurrection': New documents detail conspiracy of radical groups behind the Jan. 6
Mon Mar 29, 2021, 02:40 PM
Mar 2021

When a mob of far-right extremists attacked the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, the violence wasn't carried out by one group, but a variety of groups — including QAnon, the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers and the Three Percenters Militia. And according to a new U.S. Department of Justice court filing, a leader of the Oath Keepers was in touch with the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters before the Jan. 6 attack.

The DOJ document, according to NBC News reporters Pete Williams and Rebecca Shaba, argued against the pre-trial release of Kelly Moggs — a Florida resident and Oath Keepers leader who is facing criminal charges in connection with the Jan. 6 riot. Williams and Shaba report that the DOJ, in the memo, says that Moggs was in touch with the Proud Boys and others to plan for potential violence on Jan. 6.....

On Dec. 19, according to the report, Moggs posted on Facebook, "This week, I organized an alliance between Oath Keepers, Florida 3%ers, and Proud Boys. We have decided to work together and shut this shit down." And three days later, on Dec. 22, Moggs posted, "Contact with PB and they always have a big group. Force multiplier."

Upstanding example of public servants and their public affairs, right? HA! The stories of those arrested would make an interesting Robert Altman film. Anyone recall that one with Tim Robbins years ago? Short Cuts. Tim Robbins is the cop who ditches his kid's dog on the way to work. I suppose one could make a great series out of the backstories of some of these bungling fools. They have been under my scrutiny for a few months. Maybe I should try. A Spoon River Anthology revamped: A Day at the Capitol Insurrection. Feel free to contribute a comment or potential story (from your perspective of course!)?

How would you shape this into some made-for-tv episode of A Capitol Insurrection.? What details needed?

I will start with this story of the Police Detective and his unfaithful wife. There's a man named Grayson. And the wounded husband who filed for divorce from his wife after she took part in the January Capitol riot.

Jennifer Heinl — the wife of Detective Michael Heinl of Pennsylvania's Shaler Township Police Department and part of the FBI Pittsburgh office's violent crimes task force — is accused of taking part in the January 6 insurrection.

Jennifer Heinl was charged with several crimes after the riot, including disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, court documents show.

The FBI said in court documents filed on Wednesday that it identified Heinl through her association with a man identified as Kenneth Grayson and shared a photo of the two together that it said was obtained from Grayson's iPad.

Michael Heinl filed for divorce in February, records filed at the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas show, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

He is not part of the investigation. And Sean Frank, the chief of the Shaler Township Police Department, said earlier this month that Michael Heinl had asked his wife not to go to the pro-Trump rally that preceded the insurrection.

From Shaler Township in Pennsylvannia. What's the backstory?

From Mr. Grayson's FB.
Mr. Grayson's Facebook account indicates he traveled to Washington in mid-November and in mid-December for rallies in support of Donald Trump. When he got back from the November rally, according to the affidavit, he sent a message to an associate in which he bragged that "I was beating commies with a flag pole I picked up." He also said, "I left one unconscious so I did my little part and got the [expletive] out before I got arrested," according to the affidavit.

Alleged Capitol rioter called for public lynching of a Black police officer, prosecutors say

A man charged with storming the Capitol and later threatening Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also allegedly posted racist messages online advocating for the public execution of a Black police officer that he believed killed a pro-Trump protester, federal prosecutors said Monday.

Prosecutors said that in the days after the January 6 attack, Garret Miller became obsessed with identifying the US Capitol Police officer involved in the fatal shooting of Ashli Babbitt and seeking "justice." According to court filings, Miller identified a Black police officer that he believed to be responsible for Babbitt's death and circulated the officer's picture on Facebook.

"He's a prize to be taken," Miller allegedly said of the officer, according to new court filings.
Prosecutors said Miller threatened to "hug his neck with a nice rope" and that "he will swing." Miller allegedly sent a picture of a rope tied to a noose to an associate over Instagram and said, "I had a rope in my bag that day."

A judge is hearing arguments now on Capitol riot defendant Garret Miller's motion for pretrial release. Aside from charges re: participating in the insurrection, he's accused of tweeting "Assassinate AOC" and talking about hanging a Black US Capitol Police officer after Jan. 6

Original story: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/janelytvynenko/aoc-assassination-threat-capitol-rioter-charged

When the govt brought charges in Jan. against Capitol riot defendant Garret Miller, they alleged he talked about having rope in his bag and hanging an officer. In a filing today, the govt specified he was talking about an officer he believed was Black: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/20532769/3-29-21-us-oppo-release-garret-miller.pdf

Miller is challenging his pretrial detention. In a 3/19 filing, his lawyer didn't deny he tweeted "assassinate AOC" and made "vile and racially tinged threats against a Capitol Police officer," but argued there was no evidence of him *acting* on any of it https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/20518224/3-19-21-garret-miller-motion-to-revoke-de1376609096401625090tention-order.pdf

The govt today filed its opposition to releasing Miller from jail, which is where prosecutors elaborated on his repeated references to lynching — the lines "He’s a prize to be taken" and "He will swing" re: the unnamed Black police officer were not in the original charging docs

Mar 2021

Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who’s Cuban, has tried to sell the group as “rough around the edges,” but welcoming to people of color. Many of those who’ve bought the message are fixated on proximity to power at any cost.

The presence of people of color in far-right extremist groups is not a new phenomenon; in 2018 the Daily Beast conducted nearly a dozen interviews with Latino, Asian, and Black participants at far-right rallies on the West Coast, many of whom blamed Black people for the disproportionate police violence that befalls their communities. The far-right group Patriot Prayer, which is based in Vancouver, Washington, and has ties to the Proud Boys, was founded by Joey Gibson, who identifies as Japanese American. His “right-hand man,” according to the Daily Beast, is Tusitala “Tiny” Toese, a Samoan American who has been a fixture at right-wing rallies. (In October of last year, Toese was sentenced to six months in jail on a probation violation, having pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree assault charge that January.) Following 2020’s presidential election in which a high number of people of color voted for Trump to remain in office (in some cases in higher numbers than in 2016), questions have arisen about the ideologies of Trump’s nonwhite supporters, their political mindset—and whether their numbers could grow.

21. Two Capitol Police officers sue Trump for 'physical and emotional injuries' suffered in riots

Two Capitol police officers who battled the mob of pro-Trump terrorists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 are now suing the former guy for the physical and emotional injuries they say they suffered in the attacks.

Two Capitol Police officers who battled the mob of Donald Trump supporters that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 are suing the former president for the physical and emotional injuries they say they suffered in the attacks.

In a federal suit filed Tuesday in D.C., Officers James Blassingame and Sidney Hemby allege that for months, Trump rallied the insurrectionists with baseless election fraud claims that eventually culminated in the breach of the Capitol that left five dead, including a Capitol Police officer. About 140 police officers were injured, according to the police union, and two officers who had been on duty at the Capitol that day later died by suicide.

“Both United States Capitol Police Officers reported for duty on January 6, 2021, without any suspicion that they would soon become the targets of Trump’s followers,” according to the suit...

The officers are each seeking compensatory damages of at least $75,000 and an undisclosed amount in punitive damages from Trump.

“The insurrectionist mob, which Trump had inflamed, encouraged, incited, directed, and aided and abetted, forced its way over and past the plaintiffs and their fellow officers, pursuing and attacking them inside and outside the United States Capitol, and causing the injuries,” the suit states.

22. Q-Anon insurrectionist touts his supposed connections to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)
Wed Mar 31, 2021, 10:49 AM
Mar 2021

Meet the QAnon-affiliated insurrectionist running for Congress in Ohio.

J.R. Majewski has frequently bragged about his friendship with Rep. Jim Jordan and his role as a Trump surrogate. On January 6, he rushed the Capitol.

Majewski is a QAnon conspiracy theorist who initially gained national attention after painting his entire yard to look like a Trump reelection banner in the summer of 2020. Shortly thereafter, then-President Donald Trump praised Majewski, and Fox News interviewed him about his yard while he was wearing a QAnon shirt. Majewski has also posted multiple images and hashtags on his Instagram account that are affiliated with the violence-linked QAnon conspiracy theory, including #WWG1WGA, #thegreatawakeningworldwide, and #qanon.

Majewski is also closely linked to RedPill78, a well-known QAnon influencer who has been banned from multiple major social media platforms for peddling the conspiracy theory. RedPill78 and Majewski are friends and have hosted “MAGA Meetups” together, as well as livestreams on YouTube, Twitch, and DLive....

For his part, Jordan had peddled the lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen and called for an investigation prior to the insurrection. He even spoke at a “Stop the Steal” rally at the Pennsylvania state Capitol on November 5. A month after the insurrection, Jordan tweeted “How do you incite a riot that was already going to happen?” in an attempt to absolve Trump. Jordan later falsely claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had denied National Guard assistance during the attack at the Capitol.

Majewski claims to have helped organize and attended the January 6 Capitol insurrection
Ahead of the January 6 Capitol insurrection, Majewski claimed in multiple tweets to have organized resources to bring Trump supporters to the event. In a TikTok, Majewski claimed to have funded the travel of 30 “patriots.” “I’ve provided $20k amongst Trump supports and arranged travel for them over a 72hr period to travel to DC,” Majewski tweeted on December 30. Multiple Twitter users also credited Majewski for helping them travel to Washington, D.C., for January 6.

Rudy's star witness Melissa Carone says Trump is the 'best president we've ever' had as she speaks at 'Stop the Steal' rally after Proud Boys leader visited the White House for Christmas tour

They cheered as Trump flew overhead on the Marine One helicopter on his way out of town for the Army-Navy football game in West Point, New York.

The rallies are intended as a show of force just two days before the Electoral College meets to formally elect Biden as the 46th president.

Addressing the crowds in Washington DC, pardoned General Michael Flynn told supporters they 'must be fearless' in their support of the president.

Trump tweeted his apparent surprise Saturday morning at the rallies, publicly known for weeks: 'Wow! Thousands of people forming in Washington (D.C.) for Stop the Steal. Didn´t know about this, but I´ll be seeing them! #MAGA'

Tarrio and Carome were among several thousand of the president's supporters who descended on Washington, DC, on Saturday to stage a 'Stop the Steal' rally denouncing the alleged 'voter fraud' that they say led to President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

27. California Trump Fanatic Charged With Electroshocking Cop During Capitol Riot
Fri Apr 2, 2021, 01:10 AM
Apr 2021

BREAKING: MAGA fanatic D.J. Rodriquez, who tasered D.C. Police Officer Mike Fanone during the Capitol insurrection, was arrested today in Fontana, California.

HuffPost, working with citizen sleuths, revealed his identity last month. Story w/
@JessReports
:

Daniel Rodriguez was arrested following a HuffPost investigation identifying him as the rioter who used a stun gun on D.C. police officer Mike Fanone.

Federal authorities have arrested Daniel Joseph Rodriguez, the 38-year-old Donald Trump fanatic who was identified as the man caught on camera assaulting a police officer during the U.S. Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6. Rodriguez was indicted on eight counts and arrested Wednesday, according to court records.

Rodriguez was part of the mob that swarmed D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer Mike Fanone, who pleaded for his life and suffered a mild heart attack. Rodriguez can be seen on video jabbing a small black device into Fanone’s neck — causing the officer to drop to the ground — before breaching the Capitol and trying to smash out a window.

Fanone’s story went viral in the weeks following the insurrection. In media interviews, the father of four described being shocked with a stun gun and surrounded by rioters chanting, “Kill him with his own gun!”

A HuffPost investigation published Feb. 26 reported Rodriguez’s identity. HuffPost built off the work of the online sleuthing group Deep State Dogs and anti-fascist activists, who compiled footage of Rodriguez, a Fontana, California, resident, at the insurrection. HuffPost also interviewed witnesses who had previously encountered Rodriguez at pro-Trump rallies in Beverly Hills, as well as one of his former friends.

The FBI received tips about Rodriguez in January, including one from a man Rodriguez assaulted on video at a Los Angeles-area rally. But it wasn’t until hours after HuffPost contacted the bureau in late February with questions about Rodriguez that the tipster heard from an FBI special agent seeking information specifically about Rodriguez.

30. Alex Jones Incited the Capitol Riot on Facebook Even Though He Was Banned 2 Years Ago
Fri Apr 2, 2021, 01:22 AM
Apr 2021

Facebook banned Infowars in 2018 and Alex Jones in 2019.

So how did articles and videos from Alex Jones and Infowars urging followers to “prepare for war” received over 1M interactions on Facebook in the 30 days leading up to the Capitol insurrection?

Alex Jones has been banned from Facebook for almost two years, yet his wild and baseless allegations that helped foment the insurrection at the Capitol were seen by hundreds of thousands of Facebook users in the weeks leading up to Jan. 6.

Research from digital rights group Avaaz published Thursday morning and shared exclusively with VICE News shows that in the 30 days leading up to the riots, content from Jones’ websites, promoting voter fraud claims telling fans to “prepare for war,” amassed over 1.1 million interactions across Facebook.

Jones’ show Infowars was banned by Facebook in 2018, and the conspiracy theorist had his personal account removed in May 2019 along with a slew of far-right extremists and white supremacists, including Milo Yiannopolous, Laura Loomer, and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

Jones attended and played an important role in organizing the Jan. 6 rally that preceded the insurrection. He pledged $50,000 in “seed money” to help organize the rally and on the day, prior to the storming of the Capitol, Jones addressed attendees, repeating lies about voter fraud and a stolen election. He’s currently under investigation by the Justice Department and FBI for his alleged role in the Capitol breach.

Despite the bans in place against him and his website, it wasn’t difficult to find Jones’ content on Facebook.

31. 3rd Oregon man arrested in connection with US Capitol insurrection

#OregonFordLover FBI 11 arrested 3rd Oregon man arrested in connection with US Capitol insurrectionwith the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. via the U.S. Department of Justice

On Friday, a federal judge ordered Harris detained until trial because he is considered a potential flight risk and danger to the community, court records show. His case is being transferred to Washington, D.C., though those court records remained sealed as of Monday...

Harris is the third person with ties to Oregon charged in the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Last week, the FBI announced it had arrested brothers Jonathanpeter and Matthew Klein; they face charges including conspiracy to prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election results for Joe Biden.

Harris’ father, who OPB agreed not to name out of privacy concerns, said his son heard about the Jan. 6 rally on Fox News. He also said his son believes the election was rigged, though there is no evidence of fraud that influenced the election outcome.

“I don’t think he went there in the attempt to enter the Capitol,” Harris’ father told OPB. “I think Richard really took it for word what Trump was saying: ‘Come to the rally, come join us at the rally.’ So he went to the rally. And somehow he got hooked up with getting inside the Capitol.”

According to his father, Harris is not affiliated with far-right groups such as the Proud Boys or the Oath Keepers. Prosecutors have said in court documents those groups helped coordinate the attack on the Capitol ahead of the Jan. 6 rally.

DANIA BEACH — A license plate reader’s ping in Hollywood led police to a Dania Beach hotel room and an alleged insurrectionist who is facing several federal charges following the Capitol riots on Jan. 6 in Washington D.C.

The FBI arrested Richard L. Harris on March 18 at the Comfort Suites for his alleged role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol building, according to a federal detention order.

He is being held without bond in the Broward County Jail awaiting transfer by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Harris, 40, is from California but he had been living out of his car on the way to South Florida, court records stated. He was identified by several people who recognized Harris from pictures taken inside the Capitol building that were posted on the FBI website.

Harris appeared in at least 19 photographs and videos, the FBI said. One picture allegedly showed him standing next to a statue of former President Gerald Ford that had a red MAGA hat on its head and a Trump flag under the statue’s arm.
