Due to changing demographics, they had to appeal to a wider range of voters. To do that, they'd have to modify some of their principles.
This could not be borne by Republicans.
Instead, they abandoned all of their purported principles (including democracy) and simply grab power any way they could. Problem solved...or something.

I get this gut wrenching feeling they are going to succeed and get donny back in or someone just as bad.
