DeSantis disputes that Florida denies pregnant women unemployment benefits. So why were they flagged

https://www.tampabay.com/news/florida-politics/2021/03/30/desantis-disputes-that-florida-doesnt-deny-pregnant-women-unemployment-benefits-but-it-does/?

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis is refusing to say why the state’s unemployment agency is denying benefits to Floridians who were pregnant, sick from COVID-19 or caring for children at home.

Beatrice said all of those categories of people qualify for federal pandemic-related benefits, such as the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, which specifically allows people to receive benefits if they are not “able and available” for work. But for those who aren’t able and available, Florida has been denying state benefits, the maximum $275-per-week Florida offers for those who are out of work.

As the Times/Herald reported, call center workers said they were told to create “issues” for people who said they were pregnant. Call center workers weren’t allowed to ask, but if it came up, they were required to flag the case, which would stop payments and lead to a lengthy arbitration process.

“They specifically told us in training to create these issues and to gather as much information as possible,” said Caitlin Polidoro, 29, who worked at a call center from March until September. “We weren’t allowed to tell them.”

The people denied unemployment included:

People who were pregnant and physically unable to work
Those who were caring for children at home
People who were sick with COVID-19
Those who didn’t have a form of transportation

These repubs are scum....

This is the guy they will try to run in 2024. Lying about his success vs the virus, lying about his climate credentials, lying about his economic chops when tourism success happens despite who is governor. We have to start preparing to take him down.

DeSantis is trying hard to be Trump 2.0 & he doesn't talk like a complete idiot. Partial idiot, yes, but not as bad as Trump going on about "flushing 15 times" & nonsense like that. He sounds coherent enough that he could gain more support than Trump & be a serious contender.

...a friend of mine has Marfan's Syndrome, which is irreversible, virtually untreatable and 100% terminal.

He has to confirm and reconfirm to continue receiving Disability benefits.

"Uhh, yeah. Still terminal. Hoping it will change, but it never does, and never has."

Another guy's disability was losing a leg. Every year or two, he has to confirm that it hasn't grown back.
