(42,862 posts)... there are NONE near me. I don't even think about them as being an option.
But that's still a good one to include! Thanks!

(16,403 posts)Mostly because shes a piece of shit and an oxygen thief. I also dont eat at Jimmie Johns because the owner is a big game Hunter. Papa Johns is disgusting so thats a permanent ban. We have a couple of local businesses I avoid like the plague because of their association with RWers and trumpeting of RW causes.

(42,862 posts)One article I just found on The Google Machine reports how Barilla went "from worst to first" because of consumer backlash over the cruel remarks.

(2,568 posts)Their stopping tomato pickers from a tiny per unit increase was pure evil.

(9,081 posts)We do worse things than shop at hobby lobby. How do you think our phones are made?
Like the Christian Right boycotting because of gay positive messages, it has little to no effect.
People can do whatever.

(42,862 posts)It's certainly not going to put Hobby Lobby or Chick-fil-A out of business... but it's more of a personal satisfaction thing with me.
Although... Papa Johns is having a rough time. And the Goya section at my grocery store is much smaller than it was in the past... so you never know.
Sympthsical
(9,081 posts)If it makes you feel good, great. It just doesn't make a dent. I agree, it's more about personal satisfaction.
Like, someone put down Susan Sarandon. Is she even still working? The last thing I remember seeing her in is 30 Rock eight years ago.
Feels mostly masturbatory. And, as I said, we do far, far, far worse things with our consumerism than nab an occasional chicken sandwich somewhere. First World activism.

(42,862 posts)They would certainly be a part of my "do-not-watch" list, but I can't stop-watching something I've never watched in the first place.
FUN FACT: Back when we had cable TV, my husband got a great deal of satisfaction in blocking Fox News in the online guide.

Tesla. If someone gave me one I'd give it away like a hot potato.
Apple. Likewise.
Television news and opinion in general.
U.S.A. "football."
The entire "factory farm" meat and dairy industry.
Anything marketed as "tactical," from sportswear to flashlights to guns.
Anything right wing anti-intellectual Christians are selling.
Etc.

(15,240 posts)...I'd have no internet, other than perhaps using my Verizon cell phone as a hotspot for the whole house. Comcast is the only internet service provider in town.

(38,321 posts)Cable companies do everything they can to restrict competition.
For example, there are currently 18 states in total that have restrictive legislation against municipal broadband networks in the U.S.
https://broadbandnow.com/report/municipal-broadband-roadblocks/
Local regulations also restrict competition throughout the U.S.A.
I'm fortunate to live in a place with multiple internet options.
Comcast wants to be "the internet" just as all restaurants are Taco Bell in the movie "Demolition Man."

(7,319 posts)This applies to other companies with an asshole for a president.
I don't think I have ever bought a Goya product, unless it was a can of kidney beans I made some chili with.
My concern is with the workers. If a boycott does economic harm to the company, who ends up paying the price? The rich CEO, or the workers? If My Pillow goes out of business, Lindell will still be rich. The employees will be out of work.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)If people aren't buying Goya beans, then they're probably buying the beans from another company. (Speaking for myself, I haven't stopped eating beans or rice.) So, the companies who benefit from the increased business hire new employees; buy steel cans from the the same suppliers that Goya uses; buy beans from the same sources that Goya uses; etc etc.
The jobs may move, but they're not gone forever.

(412 posts)I have little use for them. It really does not matter much to me which side they purport to be on including the both sides types. When you willingly repeat lies in the form of media clips by the liars, you are supporting the lie and giving it air. This has to stop! They do this on on purpose to generate more viewers, but the whole thing is like a middle school lunch table. Did you hear what so and so said about this guy? How cares, give me the facts not your opinion. I have not seen any media org outline the election verification process in a way that a six grader could understand. For the most part they may have touched on an aspect or 2. I never heard anyone say, that concerns being raised have already been addressed through already established processes that were approved prior to the election. That in and of itself made many people believe the big lie. They are as guilty as the liars. Also the use of trigger words is pervasive, they constantly use violent adjective to describe non violent issues. Biden slams trump on this, trump hits back with... That example describes a violent encounter with another human, when it reality it was at best a discussion. This is done to rile up both side, don't kid yourselves. When a talking head says or prints something it is usually vetted by numerous people, they know what they are doing.

(42,862 posts)... I'd spend hours glued to cable news. Now, I prefer to read the WP or listen to the in-depth coverage on NPR or BBC-World.
